Missing college student in the Dominican Republic from Ashburn

Only focusing on passed out student and water may not only miss other suspects but put others in danger from them.

Some friends this girl had. Even if she hooked up with the guy, when she didn't show up for the excursion after she venmo'd for it, how could they just go about their day until 4pm.

And this guy with the hero syndrome most likely did something to her.

And the parents knowing she's dead probably just don't want her name dragged through the mud by the Indian circle in Ashburn and Aldie and want her declared dead. They must be looking out for their other children.

It's sad that this girl won't get justice.

Well, you should read the 208 pages. Nothing you have said hasn't been said already and discussed.

Her parents’ action is not even based in law and it’s an extremely unusual action, esp less than 2 weeks after she went missing. They have created an additional spectacle.

I’m not sure both parents are in agreement re this timing.

My guess is that they have been pressured in some way using their citizenship/residency status as leverage. They have two younger kids at home whose lives have already been turn upside down by what has happened to their sister. Being deported from the only place those kids know of as home would cause additional trauma.

Pure speculation, but that was the feeling I got watching their news statement.

Why would you think they would be deported? Most Indians I know come here on a work visa, get a green card and later citizenship. If the parents had a green card or a work visa, why should they be worried?

Indians with Green Cards are being detained. There was a warning sent out.

You participate in student protests, sure, they will detain you. I know they are targeting older people to give up their green cards "voluntarily"

Sudiksha's parents are neither old nor students.

SMH. You don't get it.

No, you don’t get it. Significant US federal resources were committed to search in DR. You are conflating unrelated things and you make no sense.

US sent FBI and HS, parents were not pressured.

I think they left after only 3 days when videos went public. I think father is motivated by shame and mother may not have been in agreement.

It is possible she was trafficked, even after he passed out.

Parents action has all but shut down searching.

It’s in interest of DR, not US, India or the poor girl to sweep under the rug after only 11 days.

How are your concluding this?because of their citizenship?

The parents are absolutely NOT ashamed of their daughter. The fact that you are baselessly accusing them of this is so messed up. Did you consider that their family and friends might read what you are saying? If my daughter disappeared with the chance that she is dead my thoughts wouldn't be how ashamed I am of her. What the hell? These are not people of means. They are also immigrants. Navigating this situation with these strikes against you in hard. Put yourself in the position of living in a foreign country with few financial resources and trying to navigate this tragedy. They likely had to declare her dead before they could get access to her phone records, handle her school business, get additional assistance. There are so many reasons but shame isn't one of them. I can guarantee that.

No, culture.

They left DR after only 3 days when vids were released.
Anonymous
I think her drug may have been spiked if you watch the bar video. Riibes too. They were only ones vomiting.

DR media claims Riibe has relevant criminal charges in past. We may never know. I think DR prosecutors had legit concerns but did not have a body. So they briefed/leaked.
Anonymous
If he actually passed out, we have no idea what happened and who may be involved.

Best for tourism to claim drowning and move on.

That her parents left DR after only 3 days is also shocking. But, followed release of video. What if her drink was spiked? What if she was taken by someone not Riibe? Her parents basically stopped the investigation. There is not even a DR law that would allow a missing person to be declared after 11 days. Ironic that her father wanted trafficking investigated, a multi billion dollar industry in Caribbean, then gave up on her in 72 hours. If the shady behavior in bar = spiked drinks then her behavior was not “shameful.”

That neither parent stayed past 72 hours to search shows how bizarre and emotionally driven decisions were. Natalee Holloway’s parents pushed search for many years. Her killer eventually killed again.

DP. Correlation? Couldn't they have left for a host of other reasons, such as their other children to care for who were probably facing some emotions of their own. What a fking troll post above.

Dp. +1. Forget the reasoning about means. You could have just ended right there at "hell." If that previous poster above yours is a parent, they would already know that tho.

Neither could stay and search for missing daughter? After only 3 days? They also asked stations to not play video. They took the unprecedented, and non-Hindu required step of asking that she be declared dead after only 11 days. DR would have to pass a law for that, otherwise the time period is far longer in DR and US. They hugged someone after 3 days who was a POI still under investigation. I feel for them but anyone deserves the investigation not to be truncated after only 11 days, not even 2 weeks!
Anonymous
The parents are middle class.

To both leave after only 3 days of searching was surprising. To in essence get the investigation shut down after just 1.5 weeks would only have happened at their request. Also protects tourism.

Personal and family reputation is an important part of their culture. Educate yourself.

If her drink was spiked she is not responsible for behavior. Look at the men in the video from bar. Watch hands and sniffing drinks. Same men on CCTV going to beach as friends return.
Anonymous
It’s a horrible situation. If she was taken by someone after Riibe passed out she could still be alive. Victims trafficked from DR are said to often end up in Haiti.
