Gotsoccer is garbage. Whenever someone mentions rankings from gotsoccer, I laugh and it shows you obviously know nothing about rankings.

I know the app, it immediately lost any credibility when i found out how it ranks teams. I don't bother with any youth soccer rankings, outside the top 25 or so teams you are truly wasting your time. To think there is any merit to these arbitrary crowdsourced rankings in the hundreds is comical.

It ranks teams purely based on the outcomes of their games. That's it.

Ha, sorry my friend. I hate to break it to you here… that’s not the case.

Think about it this way, in college football the top 25 has multiple polls. Coaches, AP, BCS and they rarely ever have consensus. That’s the top 25 in a sport with massive $ on the line. If you expanded those polls out to a hundred it would have massive differences depending on the methodology of rankings, weight given to different conferences etc.

To attempt to do that in youth soccer where team ranks and results are carried over year to year instead of reset is inaccurate to say the least.

On top of that the algorithm used to rank teams on the app is not transparent by design and the rankings can be altered by users.

I’m not saying don’t use it but understand its an app created to make a profit and not contributed to by any youth soccer governing body for any meaningful ranking.

The rankings app is about as good as you're going to get for ranking youth soccer.

The only thing I don't like about it isn't really the rankings app fault. Top clubs tend to only play each other because of the league they play in. What this means is top clubs insulate their teams from loses from lower level teams. Also lower level clubs will never get a chance to play higher level teams. Because of this lower level clubs need to blow out other lower level teams to push their ranking up. (Most coaches pull back when they're 5 goals up as a show of respect. This screws the team in going up in the ranking)

Is that not true of every good team in every sport league?

As for having one poor team having to try and score a number of goals on another bad team, that isn't just for the app. Teams in relegation battles want to score as many goals as they can in case it comes down to Goal Differential as to who gets demoted. The same goes for tournaments, at all age and skill levels, to make sure you team advances if necessary.

Most tournaments limit goal differential to 4.

Again this is just another way to screw lower ranked teams from increasing their rank. Top teams have leagues where they just play each other. If a top team happens to play in a tournament and get blown out by a lower level team by 13 goals it gets recored as 4-0. The lower level team gets screwed and the top team gets to maintain their high ranking.

Without pro/rel to the top league some clubs will always have an advantage in the rankings simply because of the league they play in. Other clubs get screwed.

This is the issue right now. Youth soccer isn't about getting better it's about clubs getting into a league and players getting onto a team in a certain league.

There is some pro/rel in USYS in its National League ("Earn your place" is the motto -- and in addition to the NL, in theory any team can win their way all to an age group national title via the state cup system). That said, to move up, a team had to basically keep winning over several seasons, and that system has perhaps got watered down with Elite64, which was basically a response to the success of ECNL/MLSN, as NL top clubs moved to that for more chances to advance in the playoffs.

Yeah, lots of tangents going, especially with the the scoring app. If anyone has a nice summary now of both leagues, that'd be cool.

Any idea when we can expect all the announcements to be complete? I would imagine the end of April would be the latest.

Interesting geographic moved from both leagues

A lot of Toledo players went to Michigan Hawks & Michigan Jaguars, thus having to miss their Hugh school seasons maybe stops with GTFC Gettign ECNL

A lot of Michigan Tigers players went to Hawks & Jags as well, I’d imagine that stops with them getting GA.

With GTFC getting promoted, will they still allow there players to play in Highschool?
