Protests on college campuses

Yes, their naivete is on full display. And they're getting blown out of proportion by the constant media attention. They're loud and dramatic, which makes them interesting to cover, but there's not actually that many of them. Most college students just want to go to class, and care much more about domestic issues than they do about I/P.

QUESTIONABLE SOURCE

A questionable source exhibits one or more of the following: extreme bias, consistent promotion of propaganda/conspiracies, poor or no sourcing of credible information, a complete lack of transparency, and/or is fake news. Fake News is the deliberate attempt to publish hoaxes and/or disinformation for profit or influence (Learn More). Sources listed in the Questionable Category may be very untrustworthy and should be fact-checked on a per-article basis. Please note sources on this list are not considered fake news unless specifically written in the reasoning section for that source. See all Questionable sources.

Overall, we rate Quds News Network as Left-leaning in bias and questionable due to a lack of transparency, the promotion of propaganda, poor sourcing, and numerous failed fact checks.

LEFT BIAS

These media sources are moderately to strongly biased toward liberal causes through story selection and/or political affiliation. They may utilize strong loaded words (wording that attempts to influence an audience by using an appeal to emotion or stereotypes), publish misleading reports, and omit information that may damage liberal causes. Some sources in this category may be untrustworthy. See all Left Bias sources.

Overall, we rate The Intercept progressive Left Biased based on story selection that routinely favors the left. We also rate them as Mostly Factual in reporting rather than High due to previous fabricated work and censorship of writers.

What if your were happily living in your home and invaders came And murdered your neighbors , forcing you and your family to flee, and then the invaders took over your land and said it was theirs , and then the invaders would not let you return , and forced your family to live in squalor , and then the invaders claimed no one ever lived on your land, it was free for the taking

Well I would try to do anything I could to eliminate the invaders

There is no excuse for anti-semitism nor for Islamophobia. There is also no excuse for violent protests.
That said, opposing what Israel is doing is Gaza, which are clearly war crimes, is not anti-semitism. Having been subjected to history’s most horrific bigotry (by European Christians, not Muslims, by the way), does not give Jews the right to massacre other peoples.

Just as they were in the Vietnam War era, college students have become the conscience of America.

And so you would classify the Hamas atrocities on innocent Israelis as war crimes too, yes? Glad we agree.

I think that a lot of them were okay with 10/7 and are shocked to find out many people aren’t.

DP. Exactly this. We’ve all seen the videos of Palestinians and pro-Palestinians around the world celebrating in glee after the 10/7 massacre. Amazing that they assume everyone would feel as they do. Truly disgusting, actually.

DP. Yes, Intercept is left biased. I think most people who have heard of the Intercept would say that. Doesn't mean what they are reporting is not true.

For comparability, I looked up WSJ, since there were several links on here recently for WSJ articles and I think most would agree it is generally biased on the right.

Both the Intercept and WSJ were given ratings of "High Credibility".

For the most part, I think in the US there is a definitely a pro-Israel tilt to mainstream news outlets, with some mainstream news (fox) having a strong pro-Israel leaning.

Which is why I appreciate other small outlets, like the Intercept, reporting on things that my get less coverage. I think Ryan Grim has done some great reporting.

Speaking of protests: The images coming out of Sweden of the pro-Palestinian mob baying for the 20-year-old Israeli Eurovision singer who is trapped in her hotel room are absolutely chilling and I’m not Jewish.

Greta Thunberg is there too, putting to bed any questions of her antisemitism.

Jake Shields? Really??

I can pretty categorically say that Jake Shields has never been on the right side of anything, so if he is your source, maybe you need to reconsider.

The arson at UNRWA has been widely reported, pick a source from below or google it. The facilities were set on fire by Israelis who showed up outside the gate while staff was still inside and reportedly the fire department took awhile to show up.

If anyone ever wondered how we ended up with German and Japanese-American internment in the US, here’s your answer. Remember when these same dummies were pouring out Stolichnya vodka and canceling Thchaikovsky concerts?

This is so ridiculous. You simply cannot assume that anyone who is heartsick at the death and devastation in Gaza is pro-murder or Israelis.

I don’t doubt there are some people like that but I feel pretty confident saying the vast majority of people who oppose Israel’s bombing of Gaza also oppose what Hamas did on 10/7.

Those are not difficult contradictory positions for most people—those of who aren’t locked into some kind of tribal zero sum propaganda war.

96.6% of their funding sources are intentionally obscured, but I’m the nut job. Sure, checks out.

Propaganda funded by foreign governments and their corrupt lobbying relationships doesn’t stiffen my sails, if you know what I mean. But you definitely should continue doing you, propagating propaganda at the behest of Emporer Netanyahu.

Thank you for writing this, PP. Most people abhor the events of 10/7 AND do not want to see any more needless suffering of Palestinians, especially children. The toxic, relentless tit-for-tat propaganda war we see going on in this thread and the epic Gaza threads is not converting anyone. Most just want to see the suffering and death come to a swift end.

Six GWU students among 33 arrested at campus protest encampment
https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2024/05/09/george-washington-university-encampment-arrest-breakdown/

Six of the 33 people arrested early Wednesday at a pro-Palestinian encampment at George Washington University are current students at the school, according to a GWU spokesman.

All of those arrested — 29 on charges of unlawful entry and four on charges of assaulting police — were given criminal citations and released, according to authorities. They will have to appear in court at a later date, and they did not go through a formal booking process. The charges are misdemeanors.
