They made informed, reasonable decisions based on the info we had and resources available. You think we have staffing issues now? Imagine if you forced teachers in last fall before the vaccine and as numbers were skyrocketing.

Our schools (local, not state) didn’t just say F it and send kids back in.

Sorry that pisses you off so much that you had to vote for a Trump Republican.

I voted D like I always do but your attitude is exactly why the Rs won and I’ve been saying that.
I also remember that Northam allowed schools to open hybrid in August 2020 and Fairfax had some of the best corona numbers in the state - not the worst - such that we should have considered being more conservative than he allowed with school reopening. And I also didn’t forget that the Dept of Health approved of the hybrid plan as well.

So you’re pissed at FCPS?

I am just telling you where the people are so the Ds don’t miss the mark next time.

Most of the parents don't remember the nuance of what the governor approved vs. what happened. All they saw is that public schools weren't open for most of 2020-2021, while private schools did open full time.

I agree.

Agree too (Dem voter). This wasn’t the only issue, but one of the big ones. I fear my party is getting a set of alternative facts (like all the PPs set on arguing that Nova schools were opening just as early as the rest of the country??) Voting Youngkin may have been a stupid way to “punish” school boards, but it still was a strong motivation IMHO.

Here you go. Facts.

Post about this from Feb 2020:
https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/105/951009.page
“Actually, based on the Burbio methodology, this says that *at most* ~40% of US student are in-person right now. Obviously, it's less than that since 100% of families are not choosing in-person.

https://about.burbio.com/methodology/
"• Burbio assigns a learning mode to a school district based on the most in-person option available to the general student population. Thus if a district offers both traditional and virtual options, the district is categorized as Traditional. " “

Hey out of state political activist.

We are talking about Virginia public schools, which were closed, vs Virginia private schools which were open.

Not 40% of schools in the US.

I’m a VA parent who saw this all go down. Don’t try to rewrite history.

DC areas schools sent kids back to the classroom around the same time as many other schools in the country. We weren’t an outlier.

Private schools had many more resources available to help them open. Mandates for testing, masking, traveling, etc. Plus, smaller classes and tons more space.

I won’t vote to harm you. I won’t try to force you into a closet away from society. That doesn’t mean I have to like you or that I won’t call you out on your shitty behavior.

Voting for someone you don't like is not shitty behavior.

Why did you vote for that person? Still haven’t heard an explanation.

You won’t get one. You’re just looking for an excuse for more name calling, no matter how thoughtful the posters response would be. It’s not worth anyone’s time.

Not at all. I’m legit trying to understand. Because right now it looks like most people voted for Youngkin for misinformed, irrational reasons. Please prove me wrong.

DP. Right because calling all Youngkin voters irrational and misinformed isn’t name calling. Get over yourself, the sanctimonious look is partially what got Dems in trouble.

You don’t want to live in VA or the USA?

Not PP, but I thought Va was smarter than this. You learn something everyday.

Your opinion.

Well we have different definitions of smart

A majority of people in a state having different opinions does not make them less intelligent than you. I’m sure it easier for you to believe you are superior.

Actually non college educated white women came out in droves for Youngkin. So it can be inferred with a fair degrees of confidence that his voters were defiantly not of superior intelligence, based upon that one little factoid, not to mention that they were so easily encouraged to vote against their own self interests. So yes the lack of a college degree. Especially when we are talking about white women in this area is a pretty good indication of a less than average level of intelligence. superior but by definition definitely more intelligent, you do know that white women without a college definition came out in droves for Yoingkin.

I’ll never understand why people vote against their own self interests. If you only knew just how insulated people like me are from decisions people like you make you’d never stop weeping. The fact is that many people vote for dems because we want our country, states and towns to be better for everyone. I didn’t lose a dime under trump. I didn’t miss a day of work because I was able to work from home, and I will be able to going forward. I have great health insurance, I live very comfortably in a really safe neighborhood, my kids go to the best public schools in the area, oh and I will retire in a few years because I’ve amassed more wealth than I could possibly spend in my golden years, and I’m 50, which means I’ll pass on wealth to my offspring.

Yep I am a democrat but the truth is there are a lot of people in this area whose lives aren’t really affected one way or the other. They don’t live anywhere near the edge. I do well regardless of who is in power. I truly feel sorry for all of the rubes who bought into the nonsense that was spewed during this election. But keep voting against your own self interests after all the less you have, the more I have, and quite frankly if you don’t care why should I.

Now buckle up buttercups, or should I say bittercups and hang onto those bootstraps Because you are going to need too. Youngkin lied to get your vote your life and your schools will be no better this time next year and mine will be not have changed at all.

The quiet parts out loud.

This post right here sums up why the Democrat party is mostly a bunch of smug, holier than thou, disconnected elitists. Especially this part: “Actually non college educated white women came out in droves for Youngkin. So it can be inferred with a fair degrees of confidence that his voters were defiantly not of superior intelligence, based upon that one little factoid, not to mention that they were so easily encouraged to vote against their own self interests.”

Here’s a little factoid you might want to consider: there are plenty of non-college educated people who are are really intelligent. They might not have had the money, time, or support to get a degree, but that does not mean they aren’t intelligent. Something else you might want to consider is that they know more about their “self interest” than you do! I know that’s hard for you to grasp. Democrats like you vote for snd set policies that screw over the middle class and poor, then just move when it starts affecting you. Or you decide to make your own insulated towns like Buckhead wants to do in Atlanta. And look at the areas of San Francisco who hired their own private security because suddenly the rich folk don’t feel safe with the preposterous policies they set in place to help
The poor uneducated folk like not arresting for theft under a certain amount. Well guess what? When the corner CVS and grocery store shut down because they are sick of constant shoplifting and no help from police, that hurts the poor in the area who can’t drive to get to other stores.

We are sick of your smug, condescending attitude.

DP. Let me know when their lives get better and they can pull themselves out of poverty under Youngkin. In the meantime, I’ll take the money saved from the Youngkin tax breaks and invest it in my kids’ trust funds.

But you weren’t sick of right wing attacks on democracy — both literal and legislation? Made up lies about CRT were more compelling than actual threats to our democracy. Why?

DP. I wouldn't vote for a MAGA Republican. Youngkin distanced himself from Trump.

DP. I didn't vote for Youngkin because he didn't distance himself from Trump. But now we've got him, so I'll cross my fingers that he'll distance himself now.

+1

It’s pretty funny that Republicans keep pointing to private schools staying open as models of success when they were only able to be open because of policies Republicans oppose. Massive funding to keep class sizes small. Mandatory masking and testing. Mandatory vaccinations for teachers.

Anonymous wrote:This thread is the perfect illustration of the point being made on CNN last night that Dems need to adjust their approach and their attitude. The reality is that independents and suburban moderates are very off put by the Dems habit of talking down to and insulting anyone who agrees with some Republican points or disagrees with Democrat points.

Dems, look in the mirror because the moderate suburbans and independents you need to win find the current iteration of the party to be insufferable.

You really need to be coddled? Is this all just a big tantrum?

It’s certainly not rational…

I thought Republicans were opposed to identity politics. That it should be about the policies, not the skin color.

Can you imagine if someone said the same things about Latinos and African Americans without college degrees that Democrats are saying about "uneducated whites?"

Like what? I have no problem calling out anyone who casts a vote based on racist scare tactics, even if they’re not white.

Oh FFS. You’re taking OP’s statement about loving the diversity of the ticket..and spinning it to suggest Sears won because of her race? You’re correct that Republicans don’t play the identity politics game. She won because of her policies.

This. And yet, when called on it, they double down. Talk about sad.

If you don’t want us to think you’re dumb then stop pretending and just come out and tell us that “different opinion”.

Which is it?
You like status quo because you are doing ok. Screw everyone else.
You are ok with systemic racism. It doesn’t hurt you so it’s ok.
You don’t want to break the cycle of poverty.
You think people are struggling because of moral failings.
You think some races are inherently better than others.
You want to restrict elections to make it different for some people to vote.
You don’t like LGBTQ+.
You do want to ban abortions.
You want to force your religious beliefs on everyone else.

Could be more than one. Or all?

Check, check, check. Straight down the list of Dem talking points. There is one party that seeks to segregate people into their little boxes and one party who has talked about poverty but done actually done nothing about it and it ain't the Rs. As for your #1, see above smug elitist posts.

So share this “different opinion” that you have. What informed, rational opinion led you to vote for Youngkin?

Show us how you weren’t manipulated.

I don't have to explain myself to you, but if you want to know what drove a lot of people to vote for Younkin, reread this post as well as the smug little nitwits' posts above who think they are superior people to the "uneducated."

This should be easy for you to prove me wrong.

What is this “different opinion” of yours? This well-informed, rational opinion.

You will never get an explanation. Half of them don’t really understand why they voted that way, and the other half who do won’t say it allowed.

I voted for the Democratic mayor in Alexandria because he did a good job managing the vaccine rollout, emergency services are good, and trash collection is good. That’s all I need from the City

I voted for Youngkin, because the world has and is changing as we work our way through the pandemic. Youngkin’s proposals are more forward thinking than the iDemocratic proposals that proved ineffective in the before times.

I voted for Biden because he had a decent career in the Senate and was a decent Vice President. However, he is proving to be a weak one term
President. Once he goes, I suspect there will be a shift in national politics to the center right as people will know by then the realities of the post pandemic world. They will understand that practicalities, not platitudes, can solve problems at all levels.

DP. Of course pp will claim their reasons were informed and rational. They wont’t explain what those reasons were because they wouldn’t hold up to scrutiny, but they will claim the reasons were informed and rational.
