Reasons I voted Youngkin:

1) Biden has massively messed up the nation with the COVID response, supply chain crisis, Afghanistan pull out
2) Terry is a Clinton crony and brings nothing new
3) Vehemently oppose mask and vax mandate for children which Terry said he would support

Live in NOVA and am "educated" by what the dems deem up to their standards...

Well we have different definitions of smart

A majority of people in a state having different opinions does not make them less intelligent than you. I’m sure it easier for you to believe you are superior.

Actually non college educated white women came out in droves for Youngkin. So it can be inferred with a fair degrees of confidence that his voters were defiantly not of superior intelligence, based upon that one little factoid, not to mention that they were so easily encouraged to vote against their own self interests. So yes the lack of a college degree. Especially when we are talking about white women in this area is a pretty good indication of a less than average level of intelligence. superior but by definition definitely more intelligent, you do know that white women without a college definition came out in droves for Yoingkin.

I’ll never understand why people vote against their own self interests. If you only knew just how insulated people like me are from decisions people like you make you’d never stop weeping. The fact is that many people vote for dems because we want our country, states and towns to be better for everyone. I didn’t lose a dime under trump. I didn’t miss a day of work because I was able to work from home, and I will be able to going forward. I have great health insurance, I live very comfortably in a really safe neighborhood, my kids go to the best public schools in the area, oh and I will retire in a few years because I’ve amassed more wealth than I could possibly spend in my golden years, and I’m 50, which means I’ll pass on wealth to my offspring.

Yep I am a democrat but the truth is there are a lot of people in this area whose lives aren’t really affected one way or the other. They don’t live anywhere near the edge. I do well regardless of who is in power. I truly feel sorry for all of the rubes who bought into the nonsense that was spewed during this election. But keep voting against your own self interests after all the less you have, the more I have, and quite frankly if you don’t care why should I.

Here’s a little factoid you might want to consider: there are plenty of non-college educated people who are are really intelligent. They might not have had the money, time, or support to get a degree, but that does not mean they aren’t intelligent. Something else you might want to consider is that they know more about their “self interest” than you do! I know that’s hard for you to grasp. Democrats like you vote for snd set policies that screw over the middle class and poor, then just move when it starts affecting you. Or you decide to make your own insulated towns like Buckhead wants to do in Atlanta. And look at the areas of San Francisco who hired their own private security because suddenly the rich folk don’t feel safe with the preposterous policies they set in place to help
The poor uneducated folk like not arresting for theft under a certain amount. Well guess what? When the corner CVS and grocery store shut down because they are sick of constant shoplifting and no help from police, that hurts the poor in the area who can’t drive to get to other stores.

taxes help everyone - schools, roads, city services. ACA and the medicaid expansion helps the poor the most, but also self employed people, too.

Np. I’m self employed. The ACA is the only reason I was able to even remotely afford healthcare. I’m grateful for the initial required kick in the pants to do so. I’m so very grateful for the leg up. Universal healthcare would be much better, but the ACA saved my life and also made having a child possible. My plan is high deductible for sure, but the access through marketplace and a small tax credit are so remarkably valuable to me. Forever thankful.

But don't lose hope. VA trends blue. We've had a D gov since 2009. That's a long time. There was bound to be a bounce back to R, for a short period. I have no doubt that when COVID passes and kids are back in school, we'll trend back D with a better candidate.

This is the ebb and flow of politics - particularly in VA which tends to do a DD, R, DD, R kind of situation. You can never get to greedy in politics because power always switches hands. Much like Trump, though, I think this will be a one term R because once Rs rear their ugly little head most voters remember why they were repulsed in the first place.

And remember, we have elections every year in VA so be sure to show up next year!!

You forgot one thing, with GOP held Gov and AG, they can send alternate electors in 2024. If I were someone who gives up easily I’d save the American experiment of democracy is over. But I’m not, so I won’t, but I feel like it.

I'll take the bait. I'm an Arlington Republican who didn't like Trump as a person.

I voted for Youngkin for several reasons. I think having any party in complete control is bad politics, so I wanted a check and balance on the VA legislature. I think the teachers union has too much control over the Democrats and were more concerned with teachers and not what was best for students. Also wanted to send a message nationally that the Democrats are too progressive. Biden ran as a moderate and tricked many of us who never thought he would be this progressive.
