Covid vaccine and menstruation

Thanks, PP!

I didn't get mine after the first. Finally did after the second. But that's happened before when I'm sick, stressed or whatever. Also I'm 45, so it's probably slowing down anyway.

Updating, had the shot, and so far things are still normal 2 days later. If anything this has been a lighter period than usual. Also had fairly minimal side effects from the second dose in general: sore upper arm the first day and a half, and a bit of fatigue and vertigo for a few hours starting about 24 hours post second dose. All gone this morning when I woke up.

I have been bleeding for 3 weeks since I got the first Pfizer. Ugh. Still going to get shot 2 next week, maybe it will stop then. Or get worse. Glad to know I am not the only one having “issues” though.

Period didn't start in the days after the first shot like it usually would have. Even at my age, I'm still fairly regular. Three weeks later, still no period. I quietly wondered to myself what was going on. Thought I was starting menopause, to be honest. This must be "the change"...

Then period started the day of my second shot. Had a heavy period. Guess I'm not alone, even at my age!

I have had the same experience except I haven't had my second shot yet.

I’m so sorry. This happened to me, too. Have you seen a doctor?

I'm never late, and I got my second dose during the TWW, and I was late a few dates, I wondering if this was because of the vaccine.

Any resolution for this from the PPs ?

Estrogen tends to push immune system signals towards autoimmunity through stimulation of antibodies. So, if you got an early or heavy period, it's most likely from increased estrogen. This is actually a very specific hormonal response that is not the same as "stress."

If you don't normalize after two cycles, I'd go see a doctor.

A lot of the posts on this thread refer to their first and second doses and not much of the single dose JnJ. Was the menstrual effect not as common an issue (proportionately that is) with that vax?

I had a normal, on-time period after my first dose. Just got my second dose; I'll report back if it's wonky.

If you look at VAERS data (which I do every now and then, because I’m waiting to see if my report ever shows up), as of today there are 423 reports of either “heavy menstrual bleeding,” “menstruation irregular,” or “menorrhagia”. Of those:
- 215 are J&J
- 111 are Pfizer
- 96 are Moderna

Thanks, interesting and not what I would have thought from here. The Illinois study had over 13 thousand respond so the VAERS total seems low.

Yeah, I suspect there is a huge backlog of reports, mine included.
