Where are your kids Getting in?

Their own website is upenn@edu.

No need to be snarky

sometimes people confuse it with Penn State. UPenn is used commonly to differentiate.

"bleeeeccchh" had nothing to do with tests and GPAs (DC hadn't even taken the SAT/ACT yet), she simply didn't like the campus and the attitude of the people she interacted with.

...and responses like those in this chain seem to bear out her reaction.

Nonetheless, extremely rude. DS was not impressed with UVA on first tour but second went extremely well. He's now a third year student and I couldn't crowbar him out of there for HYPS. He loves it. The Bleech of one single student who didn't have the stats to get in is inappropriate and rude for this very public, googleable, discussion page.

Not to derail, but I just read that Carleton has a really neat masters program in business analytics/data science. My DS is younger, but I'm following this thread with interest. DS is interested in business concepts but really enjoys math-- it seems like a cool program for kids who share the same mindset.

Are we talking about the same place? I'm talking about Carleton College in Northfield, MN. I don't think they have any graduate programs.

Carleton University in Canada is the place with the MA in business analytics and data science.

pp here--oops, sorry. Carleton, Carleson School of Management, so many similarities in a name...my lips are zipped now. Carry on.

Its Penn. Penn State is call Penn State

Plenty of people say UPenn. It’s not something to fight about.

What does “bleeech” mean? Just trying to figure out how many I need to be.

Exactly. look around Reddit or the other chatty college websites.... UPenn is used very commonly. And that condescending attitude is exactly why Ivies are such a turnoff.

Hmm. I grew up in Phila got my professional degree at Penn. My parents and grandfather went to Penn. We never called it "UPenn." We called it "Penn." Just sayin'

I went to Yale and when we were sitting around talking about how glad we were not to have to go to UPenn, we said “UPenn”. Everyone knew what we meant. Just sayin’

I grew up near Philly and we called it Penn.
In adulthood (here in DC) I hear it referred to as UPenn.
Why are we arguing about this?

N0 argument. Just entitled attitude _ guy/gal who posted said they went to UPENN for grad school. didn't want to go there undergrad? or didn't get in?? Whatever.....

I went to Penn undergrad. Did not live that close to Philly. Moved around a lot. When people asked where I went to college and I said “Penn”, people not from NJ, NY, PA often say, “which campus?”, which then needs to be followed by, “No, University of PA”.

UPenn really makes it much easier in other parts of the country, but a bunch of people still think you mean Penn State.
