Congrats! The list is weird because the 4 accepted seems harder admits than the 3 still waiting. I would think that no one that gets into UMCP scholars or Rutgers honors is rejected at JMU. Sounds like your kid has great choices, which they deserve with those stats.

Congrats to your child. Just fyi, last year my DD was offered a full-tuition (OOS) scholarship to Temple with slightly higher academic numbers. She eventually chose to go elsewhere but I was really hoping she'd choose Temple, not only because of the full-scholarship (but yeah mostly because of that), but also because I found it to be the most lively, energetic and diverse campus we visited.

It looks like your kid has a great options. Enjoy the experience!

Let the record show that UVA reject kids with perfect ACTs and only 1 or 2 Bs on their high school transcript.

OMG, imagine having those stats and getting rejected by UVA. Kid has amazing other choices and it will all work out but that is just jaw dropping. I hope it was not first choice.

It was likely as an OOS applicant which I believe would have something to do with it. Doesn't UVA weight in-state applicants differently?

Could be a variety of things. Lack of demonstrated interest, yield protection, other factors involving course selection or extracurriculars. It’s hard to say.
My dd has a friend who was shocked by her rejection to UVA, but her 4.0 UW was in regular level classes, random electives and only 2 years of foreign language.

PP here. He liked UVA very much, but not at top of list. We are OOS. He attends a private HS with many many VA residents, which I believe is probably the reason, but I would have though deferral with his stats. Who knows!! It was a surprise for us as well.

re: uva rejection of high stats kid.
decades ago they rejected me, and Duke accepted me. We all heard they did not want Maryland kids.

Ha! My kid is weird, he doesn't care about honors colleges, and he wants to go to Ithaca with JMU as his second choice (non-elite music student whose main criteria has been faculty for his instrument). At this point, I am pulling for JMU with plenty of money left over for grad school!

UVA is very clear that demonstrated interest has no admissions impact.
