Why is Blake Lively so overrated?

From the article shared above:

“Lively is seen in a TikTok video, encouraging female fans to turn an outing to the movie [about domestic violence] as a fun, female-bonding activity. She declares, “Grab your friends, wear your florals and head out to see it.”

Ugh, Blake is desperately trying to turn wearing florals to her movie into a "thing" - like wearing pink to go see the Barbie movie. It reeks of desperation.

People weee pissed she had her Betty booze and Betty buzz cocktails on display at one of the premiere events and even had a recipe that called for Ryan’s aviation gin.

It makes fans feel used and it feels really inauthentic. Then she added a hair care line launch in the mix.

I’m really surprised her team allowed this all to happen.

I haven’t been on the Eras tour, but I have friends who went to the London show and they were absolutely amazed by what a marketing machine the whole thing seemed like.

I wonder if Blake is attempting to take a page out of her friend’s playbook and just go crazy with marketing herself. The problem is that it’s not young tweens she’s marketing to. Her audience is adult women who see right through it. That’s probably why it’s falling flat.

I think Blake’s entire friendship with TS is just another angle to make money. I’m not saying that they don’t enjoy each other and have good times, but do you think it’s lost on Blake that if she gets “in” with the swifties, that’s she’ll sell tons of her shampoo at target?

Also, one more thing. I don’t think her marketing team has much control over her. She can hire and fire who she wants at this point, even though she’s not an A lister. Ryan Reynolds has made so much off of non-Hollywood ventures, he is worth like an estimated 400 million, and it gives her access to a lot of FU money. She was able to take over the IEWU movie because she had the cash to do whatever she wants.

Agree. She clearly doesn’t take advice - see the poorly executed Preserve lifestyle brand. I’ve said it before in the thread - Blake loves the launch and the announcement and the cute pics but has no interest in learning the business or what it takes to nurture something from the ground up.

So I have been to an eras tour concert and the difference is that Taylor has created something authentic. Yes there is a lot of great marketing but it helps to have something great to market. Whether you like her or not - it’s her music and her show and she’s clearly put a lot into it. It’s 15 years of music people love.

No one can say that about Blake’s ventures. Really hard to compare them and I have no idea how genuine their friendship is. It’s interesting to me that Taylor came out praising Deadpool but hasn’t said word one about it ends with us at least that I’ve seen.

I am PP. That’s a good point.

My only opinion about this actress is that she was amazing in A Simple Favor. Just nailed it.

She was. But after this whole debacle I wonder if she was just being close to her true personality.

You know, you have a point there. Any time she's been good in a movie, she's a major B. And she's not that good of an actress, so that's just who she is.

I can’t stand Blake but I did think she did a great job in It Ends With Us. I found her really captivating.

I also thought Age of Adeline was pretty good though there were rumors that Harrison Ford made her cry several times because he thought she couldn’t act and was just in it because of her famous husband. Which I thought was a d#*k move on his part.

I’ve said it before in this thread - she was so good in IEWU that I can’t fathom why she has downplayed the serious theme and promoted it so poorly. You’d think she be proud of her performance.

And the conspiracy theory I’m going with is maybe she doesn’t want to outshine her very controlling and deeply insecure husband. That and you can’t marry hair care and fun drinks with DV and she really wanted to market this products, movie be damned.

In her defense, she isn't the only celebrity with that disposition, hence, the sky high failure rate of celebrity-branded products .

I liked A Simple Favor..it got me interested in her as an actress, as a 50 year old.woman. (How old is Blake Lively anyway??). But not only am I not interested in this Colleen Hoover book to film, the BL PR for it seems botched and that re-released Flaa interview that I saw was just a really solid vote against her likeability offscreen. Which translates to: I also wouldn't want to buy product that lend me some of your charisma, since I dont like your charisma.

She started out playing an unlikable character on Gossip Girl and she never moved past it, and I suspect PPs are right that it's really close to who she is IRL.

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants was before gossip girl, and she played a likable character in that.

Yes, a character in a movie over 20 years ago that someone played as as a teenager is a more accurate reflection of that person's character than what they are doing and saying now.
