Serena is a bully and a crybaby

Serena demanding an apology is no worse than the insults McEnroe slung. You’re reaching. Your bias is showing, loud and clear.

Interesting. Are there videos of the guys having meltdowns?

I missed the match, but saw this posted. If true, seems like uneven adherence to the rules by Ramos.

and if all these men were properly penalized this would change yesterday match - or any Serena's match - how exactly?

I think this provides great context for all of us who don't regularly follow tennis. I definitely think there was a double standard and Ramos overstepped his authority.

However, I wish Serena had behaved more graciously so there would be no question of the unfairness. Nobody made her smash her racquet. Her acceptance speech was OK but could have been better. Yes she told the crowd to stop booing but she kept the spotlight on herself. She could have said even more about Naomi - that she outplayed her and completely earned her title. I wish she hadn't played the mother card when saying she wasn't a cheater. Sports greats such as Serena are not cheaters regardless of their parental status.

You do realize that Osaka holds American citizenship and has lived in the US for 17 years, while only living in Japan for three years.

I get that she has chosen to play under the Japanese flag, but she is as American as anyone else who is a citizen. You can't take that away from her.

Mom is Japanese, her dad is Haitian

So is then the new young hope of US tennis Frances Tiafoe not American? He plays for the US flag, and was born here but his parents are definitely not US born. Is that what makes the difference that he was born here? Osaka's father moved to US to attend New York University, then to Japan then back to US. I presume he got US citizenship down the road, just as his daughters had. The reason Naomi and her sister play for Japan is that Japan gave them funds for tennis. USTA did not.

I don't get this last comment. Is it a problem that people are pointing out that Naomi Osaka is of Haitian and Japanese ancestry, holds both Japanese and US passports, and spent most of her life growing up in the US? I think it's kind of cool.

In terms of funding, I read that the dad decided to have them play as Japanese. When you say USTA did not fund them, are you saying that they tried to get funding from USTA but were turned down? How is it decided who gets funding and who does not?

And I mean all athletes that our kids see.

You’re the parent so you set the example. Stop asking celebrities to be role models. They’re doing their job and your job is to watch them and parent. Don’t be lazy.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Of course parents set example. But you cannot avoid children looking at celebrities as roles models. Or yea, lock your kid in basement, maybe you can.

Let's be clear. The mom's family didn't speak to her for YEARS because she got with a black man. They came to the US. The kids have the mom's last name to make it "easier" for them. They play for Japan because it was a business decision as noted above. They were raised int he US. Ironically, Dad purposely worked with Naomi in a similar fashion to Serena's father. Dad wasn't there during the match because he can't bear to watch it.

What a spectacle

Smashing a Raquet

An extended whine session

Demanding an apology

Starting to cry

Whining to officials

Fighting for civil rights.

Ruining another players win.

Yeah, it was pretty bad. She pretty much had an extended meltdown throughout the second set.
