Even the right address is far from a guarantee. We spent a ludicrous amount of money (a lot more than we can really afford, honestly) on a not-very-nice house just to get in-boundary for a good school, and we still got *nothing* in the lottery. Sure, two years from now, we'll be in for kindergarten. But I have no idea what we're going to do for those two years.

Go to a charter for free PreK or pay for preschool, like the rest of the country does

We put down a bunch of charters on our list. Didn't get into any of them.

And if we lived in "the rest of the country", paying for preschool would be fine. Our mortgage payment for a dumpy house here is more than it would cost for preschool plus the mortgage payment on a giant, gorgeous house in most places in the US.

NP. I get your frustration because we are in the same boat. Except we also had some real safeties on our list and spent two years in PK at a DCPS that most on this board wouldn't consider, but that was totally fine for ECE. If you want/need free PK, there are options, but they won't necessarily be the popular charters. It will be all the more thrilling to enroll in K at your IB, and finally be done with the lottery for good.

You have a good shot at hardy.

I think Deal moved around 7 spots last year for seventh. We were far back so you never know if the spots ahead are folks taking other spots and dropping out of tbe lottery waitlist or enrolling at Deal.

Nevermind. Thus is pretty clear.
