well then, you deserve a cookie

No it's not, and I've done that, but I also lived in Bethesda where I could walk to the underground part of the metro. Beyond me, it was actually shut down IIRC. |
We have to watch for that sleet thing, it will refreeze and turn into a solid sheet of ice for Wednesday commuters. |
Well, since we are talking in terms of percentages and statistics here (finally), chances are, you spending time and money to learn this when you live in DC would not be a good investment. Chances to use it are slim, and you still have the variables of others on the road who are not as self-aware as you are (and I applaud you for that), so it's better to stay away completely and stay safe until the all clear. |
...and the NWS just upped the snow totals. See, they're all over the place because each time new models come in the predictions change. I'm going to jump off the snowstorm prediction wagon for a while! |
| Is it safe to say flights out tomorrow AM will be delayed or cancelled? |
Of course I would. I commuted on Monday morning after we got 29 inches of snow Saturday night into Sunday last winter. 6 inches?! I have an SUV and live on a snow emergency route. |
Magic 8 Ball says uncertain. |
| Should I go buy a shovel? |
I'd much rather walk in six inches of snow than drive. In previous storms cars had difficulty driving on unplowed streets in our neighborhood. Do you have 4WD? |
Scroll down and read where they address flights... https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/capital-weather-gang/wp/2017/03/13/major-and-messy-winter-storm-bears-down-on-washington-what-to-expect-and-answers-to-frequent-questions/?utm_term=.4ac12013a6af |
If you're not from here, then you don't know that the city and surrounding areas don't have the infrastructure (meaning enough slow plows, etc.) to clear the roads fast enough for you to do your commute. |
4WD doesn't help if we have sleet/ice. |
Exactly this. DH and I are used to snow. It doesn't matter how well we handle it if the roads aren't cleared. We live in Boston now. For the last storm, there was a plow on our street every half-hour. And we don't live on a major road. That just won't/can't happen anywhere in the DC metro area. |
| Its the sleet that will make everything icy and dangerous. |
