The woman is a globalist CFR member of the media. Along with the likes of Dan Rather, Brian Williams, Barbara Walters, Katie Couric and many others. If you doubt her being a trusted globalist, read /watch this: https://www.cfr.org/event/conversation-deval-patrick You don't get asked to host an official CFR "event" without being trusted. Trusted not to cross their well-defined lines of allowable discussion. How and when did she become a member and why did she want to? Was she obscure before, but now highly touted and paid to carry their water? Is the playing her listeners? Why doesn't she get asked the above questions? |

Not a problem for me. Spent years watching Are you Being Served and The Eastenders. Not quite music to my ears, but not a problem.
And she just let it be known that she lives in Brooklyn where I grew up. She’s got my vote. |
| I understand all those who are irritated by her voice, and then I all of a sudden got used to it. She has an extraordinary warmth, and I look forward to her every night. Katty Kay is more glamorous and is also lovely. |
| The accent is very bad and the voice is like chaulk screeching over a blackboard. |
| I LOVE her accent! I find her whole presentation very endearing. I looked up her region of accent and appreciate the explanation above of an "Estuary" dialect. Thank you. It totally enthralls me. I think most of you are somewhat bigoted and should just get over your judgmental selves. |
|
I agree, as above, and think 'endearing' is a good word. I don't know if 'bigoted' is quite right, though, because she's upper class. Just the knowledge of her ancestors, however wrongheaded it seems in retrospect, given the British exploitation of Ireland, is very distinguished and she wrote the book about the Trevelyans. Honoured by Queen Victoria, so she came from posh even if the accent isn't super-obviously posh like Joanna Lumley's (whom I love.)
Slightly off-topic on the matter of accents and usage and intonation, it seems that all Brits use the 'r' as an elision. I'm watching Trevelyan right now and you definitely hear instead of "obama administration', but rather 'Obamar-administration'. I wonder why this is so universally accepted. I first heard it in an old Beatles song, one of them sang "There were birds on the hill, but I I never sawr them winging..." I just looked up the lyrics and they even write it out as 'sawr'! Wouldn't have thought that, and that's usually not done, even if always in speech. I like all sorts of British accents, from Cockney to the Queen's English. Even Australian accents have their charm, and the New Zealand ones I've heard are quite unusual. |
| I am British and quite familiar with Accents. Travelyan's accent is certainly not "posh". It is more a upper lower class accent if that makes sense. Yes, all accents are interesting and good to know the geography behind them; however, it isn't so much her accent that is annoying, it is the sound of her voice. It definitely doesn't belong on the air and is quite disturbing to most ears. |
|
Don't you mean 'lower upper class'? I know what you mean theoretically, but don't have a lifetime of hearing all the British accents. "Upper lower class' would mean her accent was the best found in the lower classes, and she's obviously not 'lower class'. Nor even lower-middle-class.
She often talks to Katty Kay on the show. Is that one you'd call Middle-Upper-Class? |
|
Why, why, why do the keep her on the air with her grating voice ?
What’s going on with the management? |
| Katty Kay is hosting the news this week!! Music to my ears!! Please stay Katty Kay!!! |
| What a relief to have Katty Kay this week. Please BBC make Katty permanent. |
| Katty Kay used to be the regular, didn't she? She's definitely a beauty. I like Trevelyan too, unlike some others, but Katty is *high style*. |
| OMG....she is back. No more Katty Kay. Trevelyan sounds awful. It is the voice more than the low-class accent. |
| It is NOT a low-class accent--maybe the lower accent of the Upper Class. Not the very poshest maybe, and I know the voice is a problem for some people, but she's still not at all 'low-class', including the accent. That was a tacky thing to say. It looks like Katty Kay is back anyway. She was always by far the best, and Nedda Trefawk is okay, but not charismatic. Trevelyan has mostly done field reporting recently, although did the show last night. |
