Duggar son allegedly molested girls including sisters

+1. Note none of the statements mentioned the fact that he molested his very young *sisters*. That is not a teenager indiscretion!

Wow. They are so against homosexuality because it goes against what the scriptures say.

But gay marriage is sure a lot different than molesting your own innocent siblings, then having your parents cover it up for you.

It's like comparing apples to oranges.

I always have believed that those who were extremely judgmental of others were the worst offenders.

This proves my point.

I wonder if the Dugger's will try to sue "In Touch" magazine. The magazine that broke this story.

They may be so desperate for ca$h now they will have to, in order to feed their huge broad.

Some of you are just hellbent on thinking the absolute worst possible case because you hate these people because why? Because they are Christians? Don't even try to say it's because of this scandal, you hated them before this all came out.

Uh, no. Pretty sure we disliked this family because they are hypocritical bigots. And we've now learned they're hypocritical bigots who raised, aided and abetted a child molester.

I don't know why (I am obviously a moron), but I have been watching this show on and off for years and when this first broke I honestly thought no way. I'm just shocked. I figured at most they were hiding a couple of gay or disobedient kids- but this is SERIOUS. I cannot even wrap my mind around this! And the fact that they actually managed to keep this hidden for so long? I mean I am just shocked. Do you think there is any possibility that he was so sexually repressed he really didn't know much better or was just so curious he justified this to himself in his warped pre teen mind?

I come from a pretty normal run of the mill family (not overly religious at all) and remember when I was about 16 and my brother was 12 that my mom told me to stop walking around the house in a towel or without a bra when my brother was around. She explained that boys going through puberty can feel aroused by the sight of breasts, for example, and it doesn't matter whether it is their sister or not from a physiological perspective. But then if they do become aroused by their sister, it can really mess them up emotionally bc they think they are abnormal or a freak for having that happen when they obviously are not attracted to their sibling on any other level. I wonder if maybe something like this, combined with the family being freaks and totally sexually repressed with abnormal social skills, could have at least led to something like this? I have no idea really just trying to wrap my head around it.

Exactly. Please read this whole thread if you are unfamiliar with why some of us disapprove of the Duggars. It's not just because they're Christian.

+1. I have zero issues with Christians. I live in an area that is heavily Christian-influenced (not DC, obviously) and I get along with everyone. Live and let live I say. The problem with the Duggars is the above - they are hypocritical bigots who do not live and let live. They are literal wolves in sheeps' clothing.

There was one non-Duggar victim. She was the right age and lived in the town given as the victim's address. She was also a frequent visitor at the Duggar's home, and they didn't really have non-family friends.

Its a pretty good guess but not definite I suppose.

He was 14 and in a household that repressed sexuality. 14= impulse control issues and prime teenage brain. Repressive household= lack of healthy alternatives. Their answer seems to be to be even more repression.

I am Christian, and I hate the Duggers because I resent the fact that their "brand" of Christianity has become so dominant in popular culture that they have drowned out what I believe to be the positive aspects of Christianity.
My church supports gay couples
My church supports women in professional roles, including the clergy
My church sees this as our best attempts to follow the teaching of the man who:
-made a point of hanging out with prostitutes, tax collectors, lepers, and all of the other "undesirables"
-gave us the warning about throwing stones from our glass houses

I feel bad for those girls. They are apparently taught to only be happy. Jesus doesn't want to see sad/mad faces. So despite what has gone on behind the scenes, these girls just keep smiling and carrying on. I hope they get some counseling so they know this is not normal.

Am I the only one who thinks its not that big of a deal. Yes it was wrong but he was a teenager. Seems like they did a lot right, got counseling. Should he have been arrested and sentenced to life in prison? I think not, he was a kid he made a mistake. Learn and move on.
