Taking shoes off inside your home - are you offended?

What about clothes? These can pick up toxins in the air and if we were in a reataurant, on Metro, any public place and have been sitting, then we will have picked up lots of things. If you want someone to remove shoes tell them in advance or provide paper slippers or covers for shoes (surgical covers, hospital slippers). I followed host request to remove shoes and floors were waxed with no rugs and I slipped and injured back. Never again. It is not safe.

I wear shoes and will continue to! I won't go in anyone house that requires me to do so. The only time I remove my shoes is at the airport.

I am wondering if our germophobic culture and "take your shoes off" in my home lead to a too sterile attitude that causes us to be more aware of or considerate to "not make a mess" and "keep it clean" than to let loose and live a little...have fun...enjoy life? not be stuffy and care about things and material things over people and their comfort?

How about I shit in your foyer I mean I do that at home why should I be courteous in another persons home. It's shoes it's not like they are asking to see your wife naked before entering.

I hate having to take off my shoes at someone's house but comply when asked. I find it uncomfortable and slippery to go around in socks. For some people knee, hip or foot problems can make not wearing shoes painful or uncomfortable.

Oh, this thread and topic again. OP, others, just do me a favor. Let me know well in advance that you are shoes-off at home so I can decide to 1. decline your invitation 2. attend but wear good socks and short pants or bring slippers (I don't want my bare feet on your floor, sorry, I've had athlete's foot before and don't want it again). Also, PLEASE have the courtesy to keep a tidy floor - as PP mentioned I don't want my socks to be ruined.

In return, please do not ever take your shoes off at my house. I do NOT want your bare feet out at my house. Wear flip flops if you must, but I'd prefer a layer of something between your feet (especially as you walk around barefoot all day long) and my floors / couch / furniture / etc.

Lol. This thread AGAIN. I will add that I do not require people take their shoes off but for about the last year people automatically do it upon entering my house EVEN THOUGH I am standing there in MY SHOES!! You no shoes households have brow beaten them into submission.

I guess we have a "no shoes" house in that we take our shoes of, but I never ask people to take their shoes off when they come in. Some people do, others dont..

We are a No shoes house, I think its pretty gross to walk around your house with your shoes on dragging all the dirt, wet floors, ect from room to room. That's Yucky! We have a basket of clean new socks next to the door that we offer to guests so they are comfortable if they wont want to walk bare
