Most common (overused?) names among infants & toddlers in this area?

We used a family name (middle name) for our daughter. She is the 5th generation to have that middle name. As a kid, I didn't really like the name - seemed old fashioned, but as an adult I think it's pretty. But, I really like that 4 women before her had that same middle name - they were rather remarkable women and I hope my DD has that pride as well.

My DH has said if we have a son, the middle name will be his middle name. Personally, I hate the middle name and think it's horrible. However, it is DH's middle name, was his gradfather's name and also the name of others going back to the 1800's. DH's family were slaves in Texas, so it's pretty remarkable we have found history back to the 1850's. Again, I don't like the name, but it is important to DH. DH's father died when he was young, and I think this will be an important connection to that side of the family he doesn't know much about.

Sophia is definitely overused. Only use the name if you are willing to hear it with the first initial of your last name. Do you like Sophia O., Sophia P. or Sophia R? There are so many out there. 4 in my daughter's class. Of 12 soccer players, 4 were named Sophia/Sofia last weekend. It was a mess.

I have never met another child with my DDs name, but there it is in the top ten for Wash DC. Who knew?

Pick a name you like and go with it. Who cares if it's common.
