DH and I are currently exploring possible names for DC number one, but we don't have many friends with kids so neither of us has a good sense of what's common around here. I was one of at least 5 girls with my same name all through school, so I'm hoping to avoid putting my child through the same experience. Have seen the social security lists but I know there can be a lot of variation even from one neighborhood to the next, so we're hoping for some additional input from you all.
What are the names you hear most frequently around DC and the inner burbs these days? Regardless of what you like or don't like--any names that seem overused? Trendier choices that seem destined to be the next Jacob or Isabella? |
I know several Alexanders in the District under the age of 5.
There's less concentration among girls. I don't think I know any two girls with the same name. |
Jackson - way to common these days for my taste |
oops I meant "too common" |

mommy of a Maya here. never hear of the name before but after DD was born seems like every other girl in the playground is Maya :0( |
Maya's mom, I had the same experience with my Lily. Never met one... until I had one.
As for the name Maya, I find it's popular with my friends in families of mixed ethnicities. It just works in a lot of difference languages and cultures. |
names I know multiples of:
Sophia, Lucas, Mason, Elijah, Alexander, Zoe |
I have a Max, love my Max, but there are lots of them. Aidan/Aden is also pretty popular. I sense alot of Zoe/Chloes/Emma.
I just say go for it - nothing wrong with going with a popular name - my parents did and it didn't bother me. |
