Netanyahu backs Iran truce; opposition blames him for worst-ever ‘diplomatic disaster’

Israel on Wednesday said it would support and abide by the two-week truce declared with Iran by US President Donald Trump, but vowed to push ahead with its offensive against the Hezbollah terror group in Lebanon.

Following the announcement, opposition leaders assailed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying that he had failed to secure Israel’s stated strategic goals as part of the ceasefire. Opposition leader Yair Lapid said Netanyahu was responsible for Israel’s worst-ever “diplomatic disaster,” and that the strategic damage would take years to correct.

“There has never been such a diplomatic disaster in all our history,” Opposition Leader Lapid, head of the centrist Yesh Atid party, wrote on X. “Israel wasn’t even at the table when decisions were made concerning the core of our national security.”

“It will take us years to repair the diplomatic and strategic damage that Netanyahu caused due to arrogance, negligence and a lack of strategic planning,” Lapid said.

Yair Golan, head of the left-leaning The Democrats party, wrote that “Netanyahu lied. He promised a ‘historic victory’ and security for generations, and in practice, we got one of the gravest strategic failures Israel has known.”

Blood was spilled. Brave citizens killed. Soldiers fell. An entire nation in shelters,” but “none of the goals were accomplished: The nuclear program was not destroyed; the ballistic threat remains; the regime is in place and is even stronger coming out of this war,” wrote Golan.

we are not signatories to the Geneva convention so it doesn't matter. teh global order and intl law doest apply to the USA both in good times and in bad. we are the most powerful country in the world and have been for 100 years. our poor decision making for teh past 25 years has been weakening the all powerfulness that we had previously but there is no-one who can challenge teh might of the US. so its up to us citizens to not abuse that power.

The US is a signatory and wrote the Geneva Conventions.

Israel on the other hand is not a signatory.

This was worse than the Afghanistan withdrawal. And, unlike tge withdrawal, it didn't have to happen.

This is concerning.

Sometimes heroes arise where we least expect it.

Who would have thought that decades of corruption and money laundering would be the exact skills needed for this moment. The world works in mysterious ways.

Erdogan thanks Pakistan.

He also expresses hope for a lasting peace even a thinly veiled mention of Israel halting its "provocations and sabotage".

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan welcomed the ceasefire declared between the U.S. and Iran Tuesday night, expressing hope it would be fully implemented on the ground without allowing room for "provocations and sabotage."

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan also spoke by phone with the Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to convey Ankara's satisfaction with the truce and commitment to pursuing lasting peace.

The Turkish president posted the statement on his social media account, welcoming the truce and setting out Ankara's conditions for its success.

"We welcome the ceasefire declared last night in the war that has turned our region into a battleground since Feb. 28. We wish for the ceasefire to be fully implemented on the ground without giving opportunity to possible provocations and sabotage," he stated.

Key Points of the Proposal
Security Guarantees: A permanent end to the war and a formal guarantee that Iran will not be attacked again.
Sanctions Relief: The immediate lifting of all U.S. and international sanctions.
Regional De-escalation: An end to Israeli strikes in Lebanon and against other Iranian allies.
Strait of Hormuz Reopening: Iran agrees to reopen the vital shipping route under specific protocols.
Transit Fees: Implementation of a $2 million fee per ship transiting the Strait. Iran proposes splitting these proceeds with Oman.
Reconstruction Funding: Iran plans to use its share of the shipping fees to fund the reconstruction of infrastructure destroyed during the conflict instead of seeking direct reparations.
Nuclear Commitment: A reported commitment by Iran to not seek nuclear weapons and a request for recognition of its right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes.
Frozen Assets: The release of all Iranian funds and assets frozen by the United States.

THIS IS FALSE.

The US has NOT agreed to this!

Yes they have. All of the things list can only be changed if the US and Israel want to invade. These are the same demand Iran has had from the beginning of the war.

Here is the wording of what the president said.
“We received a 10 point proposal from Iran, and believe it is a workable basis on which to NEGOTIATE.”
IOW - this has NOT been accepted. It is a basis for negotiations. Trump will never allow Iran to continue to enrich Uranium.

And, my prediction is that ships will transit the strait WITHOUT paying a fee.

But if Iran does not stop bombing Israel like it is currently doing, all bets are off.

Pretty embarrassing for you:

“Iran will demand that shipping companies pay tolls in cryptocurrency for laden oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz, as it seeks to retain control over passage through the key waterway during the two-week ceasefire.”

How can Israel only selectively honor the truce and keep bombing wherever he chooses to bomb? That's fraudulent and would jeopardize this ceasefire.

Only Pakistan and Oman are the countries which can help sort this mess as they've good relations with all involved.

This mediation involved Pakistan, Turkiye, and Egypt, with China doing some nudging. Along with Iran and the US, those are the major countries involved in the region so it would put Israel, and the US, in a corner now if the terms are not kept.

Pakistan is the proxy for China.

China gave Iran the guarantee.

Y’all can thank the Chinese at your next trip to the gas station.

lol!

There’s no real ceasefire. Iran and Israel are still lighting each other up and gulf states are fighting off drones. Trump painted himself into an economic corner, probably greenlit a failed special ops mission they lied about and turned into a rescue mission, and negotiated a hidden surrender.

He is 100% right.

Pakistan is competent when it has to be. This war was a disaster for Pakistan economically. Schools were partially shut. The price of gas rose by 40%. There were shortages. If Iran collapsed, they would have a huge refugee crisis in Balochistan. Where they are already facing insurgents.

Therefore they are highly incentivized to see this war over and no doubt trying their best to help bring that about.
