President Recep Tayyip Erdogan welcomed the ceasefire declared between the U.S. and Iran Tuesday night, expressing hope it would be fully implemented on the ground without allowing room for "provocations and sabotage."

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan also spoke by phone with the Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to convey Ankara's satisfaction with the truce and commitment to pursuing lasting peace.

The Turkish president posted the statement on his social media account, welcoming the truce and setting out Ankara's conditions for its success.

"We welcome the ceasefire declared last night in the war that has turned our region into a battleground since Feb. 28.[b] We wish for the ceasefire to be fully implemented on the ground without giving opportunity to possible provocations and sabotage[/b]," he stated.
