Crime is rampant - school trips don’t even want to go to DC.

Wasn’t an intern shot recently?

I’m a Dem btw.

Crime is not rampant. It is dropping. We go out all the time and never experience crime.

Huh?? Were you out on the 4th of July when kids were shooting roman candles at pedestrians, cars and buildings? It was lawlessness that I've never seen before in any country I've ever traveled to. Kids had taken over the streets. I actually saw cops watching it too. And then something caught on fire and the fire department had to be called in.

It is not dropping it is just no being reported. Car windows smashed and its never report it because of it will only raise insurance rates (yes I confirmed this with my insurance agent). Additionally, insurance only cover the amount that is above deductible- so its not worth it.

I’m like you, and I agree with you.

This is not a bad thing. It is very telling and sad there are so many people responding here who are against these common-sense measures.

BTW, I live inside the beltway but we have largely avoided DC, especially certain parts and especially after dark.

Those of us who actually live in the city, spend our time and money at plenty of places in all quarters of the city, without fear or favor. I know there is crime. There is crime everywhere, but it isn't like the suburbs are free of the same issues and risks.

I can't wait til it gets back up in the 90's and those poor fools are stuck sweltering at Dear Leader's behest.

Crime is down over 30% in the last two years and is at pre-pandemic levels. The only thing holding the city back is the GOP withholding a billion dollars of our own money from us. The GOP is literally the cause of cuts in MPD right now.

Nope. It’s not money. DC budgeted for 4000 police officers. We are at 3200, so 800 below the need. We can’t recruit officers to DC because the Council and people like you make the job impossible.

Ah the famous phantom crime tripe.

Sorry, no, crime is down by every reasonable metric.

There is nothing wrong crime everywhere. You don’t have to live like this. Free your mind. Walk towards the light.

Look at all the cuts the GOP forced on DC already in 2025. They are 💯 responsible for any stank. They are cutting funds to MOD and efforts to combat homelessness. They’re also cutting education, which won’t help roving bands of teens.

“It was only a few years ago that Republicans accused Democrats of wanting to defund the police. But on Tuesday afternoon, House Republicans seemed to do just that in D.C. – and much more.
The House approved a federal spending bill that could force D.C.’s local officials to cut more than $1 billion out of the city’s current $21.2 billion budget, a move that city leaders warn would prompt a hiring freeze, result in likely government layoffs, and potentially “decimate” services for residents and visitors – including police and schools.”

“…while the Metropolitan Police Department would have to cut $67 million. D.C. Fire & EMS would need to slash $42 million in spending, while the Department of Human Services – which handles homelessness and other social services – would be on the hook for $28 million in cuts.”

Groups of uniformed agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration and other agencies could be seen strolling streets in small groups. At least 120 FBI agents were reassigned from other duties to take part in Sunday's patrols.

At one intersection, a minor traffic accident between a car and a moped brought at least two dozen agents running, some wearing masks and one carrying a rifle. Local D.C. Metropolitan police were also on-scene.
