Maine governor

Its not about the trans athletes or trans anything. Its about Trump trying to illegally change laws and force elected officials to bend to his will.

It is really not about the transgender issue. He just likes it because so many people gets so upset about that topic that it is easy for them to miss the broad picture of what he is doing. If he establishes the precedent of changing laws on a whim, do you think he’s really going to stop at transgender laws?

Yeah, he could not care less about many of the issues he's pushing. But his base eats it up

This.

If he wants to change the law, then do it the right way. He is impatient and likes to declare victory without working to gain any consensus.

that data should be public, so why don't we make a list of all the trans athletes.

Make a list? Do you hear yourself? Your obsession with these kids is super creepy

Why don't we make a list of those who want to make a list?

You're missing that it isn't illegal to change the law. That's what EOs are for. He has some real power there. Constitutionally. Whether you think it's illegal means nothing, anyone can think what they want.

Administrations have always used the power of the purse to force states to comply. Biden definitely did it, so did previous administrations.

I actually agree with you even though I think it is grossly misogynist and extremely regressive to permit biological men in women’s sports. He was so rude to her and I was glad to see her standing up to him.

But what both angers and worries me is that Democrats seem to be celebrating the fact she stood up to him without seeing just how weak they are on this issue, and how much of the electorate sees the same video and just sees Trump dressing down an extreme leftist pushing for a very unpopular and very unfair entirely personal interpretation of law. After all, you didn’t see this behavior for any of Biden’s EOs, so why this one? It’s a very weak position for the Democrats but they just seem to be blind to that.

A new president changing laws on a whim? Like when Biden decides that sex-based protections for women’s sports no longer apply on his first day in office?

Be serious.

Then there should be no issue with the EO. Why make such a fuss? Surely you agree that it’s not such a big deal if five trans girls can’t destroy the competition in the state finals any more, since it is so irrelevant to you?

It's a handful of people and you all have been frothed into a frenzy about them.

Just wait til those federal jobs get cut in your state. It's coming. Hope it's worth sticking it to a handful of libs

Again, since it’s such a small number, you should be fine with Trump’s EO. Why can’t you say you are fine with it? You keep saying you don’t care and it is irrelevant, so you are fine with it, right? Can you confirm?

Not fine with it, because I think states and / or communities have the rights to do what they want to do. There are so few "trans" athletes and students they will not make much of a difference in most areas. Little trans Jane /Jonnie can usually go into a bathroom stall and change. And if they want to rule the track / team at their local high school, well, it won't make any difference to anyone in 5 years. It's not like Republicans really want girls (born that way or trans) to be in sports in the first place.

You know, states rights? The states rights that Republicans have been saying they want more of for the past 50+ years.

Apparently now states rights don't mean anything to Republicans, starting on January 20th.

That’s not what happens though, is it? That’s not what Lia Thomas did. Paula Scanlon was forced to change in a janitor’s closet to avoid being exposed to and exposing herself. Gavin Grimm was provided access to a private bathroom and sued for the right to use the boy’s room. There are multiple examples upthread of trans girls exposing themselves in locker rooms.

So Maine does what it wants and Trump takes away funding. What’s your problem.

Locker rooms should have private stalls anyhow. They have been a longtime source of bullying and harassment and shaming and other inappropriate behaviors even without trans people.

They are idiots if they think she’s an “extreme leftist”.

Dems don’t need to cater to bigots.

This is not a problem that needs addressing. It affects very few women!

It affects us all.

Just the bigots. They get triggered.

My daughter’s PE class has a trans girl (boy who identifies as a girl) changing in her locker room at Walter Johnson HS. Because this boy’s feeling are more important than the twenty girls who now change in the bathroom stalls. None of the girls want to speak up because they know they’ll be ostracized and called bigots by people like you who think girls should undress in front of boys. It’s not a big deal, right?

I call bull. Girls have been changing in the stalls or behind locker doors forever because they are scared of being body shamed by their naturally born female peers. That has been the case for decades.

In my personal experience of using swimming pool locker rooms, I can say definitively the only people walking around in full nude are 70+ year old women and older Asian-born ladies (God bless them they don’t care), and the occasional 4-year old boy there with his mom, And no one is staring at anyone else’s bits because that is weird and creepy.

And here’s part of the problem. I state a very real issue and someone says it’s fake. Believe women! Oh wait, not those women.

I also call BS as there is no requirement to change out for PE so most don’t. And no one asked them to undress in front of a boy that’s why there are stalls, in case anyone is uncomfortable.

Maine is pretty moderate. If they like her, maybe she can do well on a national level.

There has never in the history of humanity been a group more concerned with other peoples genitals than modern conservatives.

I guess that’s why the Grindr servers start smoking whenever there is a republican gathering.
