I think Puri was nervous about a conflict. She doesn't want to appear too demanding. Also Hilary seems unstable at the moment.

Mercy's friend is a classmate/friend of the guy who was going to the protests. No she is not his sister-- we see her in her own home with her family at one point. They have a conversation about an exam coming up and studying.

No, there is one episode left.

Oh please. She was just hungover. People are going overboard with the supposedly cruelness here. Puri could have readily have gone on her way to the competition. Geez.

Lots of things here open to interpretation and biases. So be it!

Are we supposed to believe she’s the ultimate victim? Victim of an overbearing Tiger Mom, Victim of being Korean American in HK, Victim of her Losing someone’s child cross to bear, Victim of attention from cheating married man?

Does she and her financials make more sense in the book?

None of her decisions were good. Her attitude is terrible and grossly immature for a 25 yo. She gets bailed out by her mom at the end. Was this all to stick it to her Mom?

Everybody was really sticking it to their Mom by the end of the movie. Everyone.

She actually had nothing to apologize for. Being jealous of your nanny’s connection with your kids is not actually a sin, nor is interviewing a new babysitter because you think the nanny may no longer be a good fit. In the book she ends up in a crowd of rich kids at Columbia even though she is not. She picks Hong Kong after failing to get a good job bc her rich good friend lives there. She starts off working for a newspaper and it goes under, then she is sort of drifting as her visa is running out.

No surprise her new friend ditched her. She is so clueless.
And what was her plan with this baby? Now she’s moving back to the US with a mom she dislikes who will help her raise this baby? She has no plan so one was made for her. Sad.
