I don't think I can be friends with moms who drive huge SUVs

19:59. Also, OP:

Do you bring your own bags to Aldi? Keep a stash in your car at all times?

Of course, you buy all your clothes second hand, like I do. I shop at thrift stores and I’m very choosy: today I wore a long cashmere cardigan likely from Bloomingdale’s that retails for $800. Bought it for $20. I donate weekly - one in, one out. Been a thrift store hobbyist since before it was trendy - over 30 years.

Guess what my hobbies are? Upcycling paper ephemera (from thrift store finds bought for mere pennies and sometimes giveaways) into greeting cards. I also clean up creek beds and have amassed jars of creek glass that I make into mosaics like stepping stones.

Never judge a woman by the car she drives.

Never mind. Your parents were definitely early adopters if they were buying the first-gen Prius in 1997.

Which also means they were INCREDIBLY wealthy. Interesting that OP hasn't brought socioeconomic class into this - I suspect she's just angry others can afford a lifestyle she doesn't believe they're entitled to.

OP here. How do you know these people can afford these lifestyles? I am not jealous. I feel sad for them because they are chasing after material things. I know people making less than us with these types of cars. They are in so much debt, but it's accepted as normal in the US to some degree to have car payments and pay interest.

Just because you know one family in debt doesn't mean everyone that has an SUV is. Lots of us pay cash for them. But your opinion of me doesn't factor into my decisions at all. I don't care what anyone else thinks or assumes about me.

A few years back when I bought my wife a new minivan at a Honda dealership in Arlington, I was speaking with the F&I manager (I am a regulatory attorney dealing with finance laws). I paid cash, and the manager noted that nearly 60% of his sales were cash deals. Pretty much unheard of elsewhere in the country. Granted it was $44K and not $75K+ but there is a lot of money in this area.

Yeah. We paid cash for our Pilot and our CR-V. Bought w/in the last years.

It was hilarious the other day because a few of them ran into each other at the grocery store and were talking obnoxiously about their vacations while standing in line at Aldi. Anyway, once I got to the parking lot, they were all talking and loading their groceries. They all have the exact type of car a HUGE white SUV. My first car in high school was a Prius. Dh wants an SUV but I am adamant about having a sedan. We have two kids, and it's fine. Do these people not care about global warming? We had an earthquake a week ago, killing thousands of people. Driving these huge cars is such a waste and global warming contributes to more earthquakes. I went from living in an apartment to this. It's such a big change.

What you are noticing is a different set of values- and that is okay. You have yours and they have theirs. At the end of the day, they are doing what they think is best for their child(ren). And you are doing what is best for your child(ren).

I hate SUVs and large trucks as well. They are more dangerous. They never fit into parking spaces and limit visibility for those who are not in SUVs/trucks. They also have more blind spots and endanger pedestrians/other cars/etc.

Find your people OP. It is okay. I know it is frustrating but you cant make other peoples choices for them.

But the government could regulate this.

Why are they allowed to block everyone else’s view?

How does global warming cause earthquakes?

You moved to the burbs-- you are part of the problem now OP. Time to look in the mirror and get off your high horse.

OP here. We were middle class. Prius was 22k. Bought the car my senior year which was 2008

Hahahahahahaha! Middle class and bought you a $22k car. Yeah, ok, you loon.

In 2008 a Prius was absolutely a status symbol/ fancy people car. Like Teslas are now (minus the whole Elon Musk factor).

No it wasn’t. I had a Range Rover in 2008. Prius was still lame.

Blah, blah, blah. You lost me at one kid.

She lost me at buying a big car to be a GIRL SCOUT LEADER. I’m my daughter’s troop cookie manager, and no way am I plunking down thousands on a car I don’t need for that privilege!

Funny how you chose that one part to highlight and not the part about how she carpools with her learning disabled child and classmates daily. But no, she doesn't need a large SUV to get her child and others to their special school, how PRIVILEGED of her. You self righteous b___tch.

She could do that with a plug-in or hybrid minivan, but she doesn’t. Now she’ll chime in to say she has horses and/or a boat.

Anonymous wrote:Please tell me OP you live in a new build and the perfectly good 2000 sq ft original build is sitting in a land fill. Tell me it's true. And the potential buyer will now consider a new shiny townhouse in a new concrete jungle because it's the only affordable housing left where green space used to be

I live in a townhouse that is less than 2000 Square feet. No house was torn down. This was a field. We couldn't get an existing house. Tried for 11 months. My work is five minutes away. Half of the community is south asian. We are an international family Turkish/ Asian. The community I live in is friendly and not flashy. I have noticed these other mom's at the birthday parties. Thanks for mentioning that travel sports doesn't mean they fly every weekend. I had no idea.

Why not stay in your apartment then? A townhome consumes more energy than an apartment. Hypocrite?

Because we want to own a home instead of paying the landlord's rent. I can't give my kids an apartment.

Condos and Coops don’t exist where you live? You care more about money than climate change? You might gift your kids a TH but what world are you leaving them due to your selfish choices?

What’s so funny about this is that these women are living rent free in OPs head while they go on about their lives without giving her a thought.

You sound like a child. Politicians only care about money and power. You know this.
