I don't think I can be friends with moms who drive huge SUVs

Op here. I would never drive one—just not my thing. I like the way the doors open. Our community is at least 50 percent Asian, so many people have their parents living with them. None have these large SUVs. My problem isn't with all SUVs. It's just the massive ones.

Someone with kids who thinks minivans are a "thing" that you have or not, rather than a practical means of transportation.....you are pathetic if you think you are somehow cool in any way, lol. And I agree with you on the giant SUVs.

I didn't say I was cool I don't want to drive a car bigger than I need. No one is forcing anyone to buy a minivan just because you have kids doesn't mean you *"have to** have a minivan. The rest of the world understands that.

I no longer have a Prius. That was in high school and I pointed that out because that's how I grew up. It was very important to my parents that I don't contribute to global warming so hence the Prius. Big SUVs are so wasteful. That's a fact Americans love to ignore.

How nice for you. Most kids in this country aren't lucky enough to have their parents get them a car when they're in high school (much less an expensive Prius!) I love how you are judging the privilege on the other side without recognizing your own.

Exactly. Lots of kids have parents who either can’t afford to get them a new car or can’t afford to get them a car at all.

OP is a hypocrite.

I'm a hypocrite because my parents saved money to buy a more fuel-efficient car. Right. No one was impressed with my car in my senior year of high school. Most had no idea it was hybrid. My parents made payments of $400 for a few years. Some people buy their kids a cheap car they can pay off right away and others make payments.

Alright. So OP is really the same as the people she despises. She just chooses a different set of nonsense to lack any self awareness about. Your parents made $400 car payments for you??? IN HIGH SCHOOL?? You think that's just because they were hardworking and anyone who didn't get that just had lazy parents? GTFO with that and get some perspective. Sorry to interrupt the petty bullshit...continue.

Op here. I never said any of those things. You sound pretty angry and dramatic.

- in the D.C. area.

Everyone around here is mentally ill.

No, I've lived all over (military spouse). DC isn't unique.

Op here. Those are the moms from my child's school. The only times I've interacted with other mom's are at my child's birthday party. We have only been living in the area for a month.

This has been a thing for at least 15 years. The truth is that the big vehicles are very convenient and handy. If you're going to judge a person's whole personality/values around their vehicle, that's your problem. Different strokes for different folks doesn't mean that they're not friend material.

Lol - PP from above. My friend just reminded me that her mom had a huge, white SUV in the 90s. So maybe 25 years.

Ugh. A minivan?

What kind of people actually drive those things??

The crazy people (like OP) stand out. Most people couldn't care less what random people around them drive. OP has some weird issues.

They're a fairly economical option for people who need more space for family members, pets, and luggage.

I wouldn’t even know what other parents drive. I have a Tesla. A lot of people have SUVs. I don’t think they are giant SUVs. Some people have sedans or minivans. Does it even matter? I really don’t care what you drive.

If I bump into someone I know, we will chitchat.

I don’t shop at Aldi. Does it matter if we are parked in front of Whole Foods or wegmans?

OP sounds like the odd one.

I know, this is difficult for you to understand. But a family of 4-6 …can’t fit into a Prius. I know, I know, mind blowing, right?

I have 3 kids. I also have 2 parents. My parents don’t live with us but we like to be in the same car when they visit. I often carpool and have other kids in my car. A Prius wouldn’t work for our family. We need 3 rows.

NP. OP clearly struck a few nerves on this thread.

I don't drive an SUV and rarely struggle for space in our car. Serious question for the SUV drivers here: why do you feel it's so much more convenient than a regular car?

It’s obviously an identity thing judging by the defensive responses. This is why they look the same and dress the same etc. They are virtue signaling that they aren’t DC liberal environmentalists.

So why did they give you a car??
