I should clarify that we thought about moving. But I am truly not sure that anywhere else in MCPS is necessarily ‘better’.

W schools and BCC

Actually we have friends at BCC. I'm not sure it's THAT much better. Not worth the amount of difference with regards to housing costs.

Indeed

Well there have been multiple events with staff and students over the years. A few staff arrests. The under the 2nd floor steps sex scene posted of facebook live by an 18yr old "freshman" immigrant and a 14yr old. Multiple sexual assaults, and few drug overdoses (at least 2 this year in school) and the drug sales and partaking in the bathrooms. The known avoidance of the 3rd floor bathroom. A lot of fights and bullying and yes, wonderful diversity but these kids rarely mix unless it is for sports. The IB kids mix with no one, so it is basically JW kids entering a slightly larger school. So if you hate JW, you will hate RM.

Not true.

My IB kid has non IB friends.

JWMS sucked.

RMHS is much better, both my kids have stated this.

Also there are several former JWMS kids in IB magnet.

I have not heard of the OD in school this year. Where did you get that?

So throwing in a few IB students make a high school great?

How can JWMS suck and RM be great? Makes no sense

Never stated that. You speak in absolutes. I was responding to what you stated in bold. JWMS sucked because the classes were boring, not challenging, extra curriculars were lackluster. RMHS is much better for both.

You also didn't provide the source of the two ODs at RM.

Do you even have kids at JW/RM? I'm guessing you do not judging by what you posted. Maybe you heard this or that but have no first hand experience.

It's great for students who take advantage of these challenging classes and grow because of this.

I am not the PP but know of at least 2 OD’s at RMHS this year. Not died tho. But classes held and the kids left via ambulance. One we even received an email about. The other we did not. There are a lot of things we don’t get notice on. Depends on how much crap was gossiped about. The school isn’t required to notify the parents.

I can agree with that. OP, if you have younger kids, consider this.

Not lately

Well Same as any other school. It's safe but a few posters are trying to hype incidents at every school lately o lobby for prison guards aka SROs. The county got rid of them because the research showed they weren't effective

Both schools have a strong academic opportunities, but I would say RM goes above and beyond because of the extensive IB offerings. My younger child is currently in their junior year of the IB program and has really enjoyed it. Our base school is Wooten fwiw.

The reason people can say JWMS sucks but RM doesn't is due to leadership.

At JW, the principal is busy collecting garbage cans full of hoodies from kids who -- gasp -- walk into school with their hood up, meanwhile ignoring the kids vaping and fighting outdoors during lunch, dropping the n-word in the hallways, vandalizing the bathrooms, etc.

There was 2 incidents of loaded guns on RM campus in less than 2 days. I don’t think anyone is hyping anything up. It’s scary
