She’s a two-time Olympic Gold Medalist for the United States. I’m sure you’ve made equally significant contributions and will share them with us here.

An Olympia. Guilty of domestic abuse and bringing an illegal substance into Russia hardly makes her a role model?

She abandoned her pregnant wife and babies and was involved in domestic abuse. If she were a man people would be less charitable. She’s a talented athlete but not a very good person.

Why on earth would anybody volunteer for the military under these leaders?

He’s not a Marine. He is an ex-marine. He received a bad conduct discharge. He’s no great American hero.

And Biden has pledged to keep trying to bring him back to America. Guess he's not that bad

He has to because republicans have latched onto him and he’s an “American”. Clearly not a top priority though as he still isn’t out and even trump didn’t bother working to get him back.

This is false, according to John Bolton.

Yes, the merchant of death is truly THAT BAD.

No Whelan just wasn't worth it.

I don't think MAGA nation would care about any of that, as long as she was a white heterosexual Republican man, even better if he was military.

She still doesn't deserve to rot in a Russian Prison Camp.

“Abandoned her wife”….you mean she had to go overseas for work? Yes, men do this all the time with a pregnant back home. Happens every day in the US military and anyone who works for a multinational company. I did it when my wife was pregnant.

You are unhinged.

Did I say that? I was just responding to the person who was holding her up as some kind of role model.

Obviously you don’t know anything about her. There was a previous wife. If you are going to be vehement about something and chastise other people, I suggest you make even a small effort to be informed. It is good she’s coming home but she’s not some kind of hero. Also stop saying unhinged, it sounds stupid.

Is that the standard now? Because if it is the MAGA supporter being held in Russia is not a good man.

Neither is he. So we should just leave them there, I guess? Is that what you're advocating?

I would take here over him. She is no threat to our country, he is.

MAGA Nation would love that. Black is okay too, if we’re talking Herschel Walker. Just male and heterosexual.

John Bolton and the NY Post aren’t super reliable sources, are they?

Whelan’s sister tried in vain to get Trump to exert himself a bit. Whelan himself begged Trump to even just tweet about him. There’s a whole paper trail of their efforts. But believe what you want.

Man are you obtuse. I’m simply pointing out that those who are lionizing her would not likely be as charitable to a man who had conducted himself the same way. Of course she should be home but the amount of adulation and excuses we make for people with athletic talents is disgusting. I think Whalen was probably up to some dodgy stuff. Fogel should have come home before her but teachers aren’t as cool as athletes I guess.

We should not be negotiating for hostages. This just puts a target on the back of all Americans when they travel. Bad actors have been reminded yet again that we have a price.
