Britney Griner deal

God help me because I’m absolutely damaged from the past 6 years or so….

But, Griner didn’t even bother to vote in 2016. Sure, I feel bad for her, but maybe things would be different for her if she gave a f’k about things before they directly impacted her.

And maybe she wouldn’t have had to play in Russia if the WNBA paid decent salaries

You could qualify for the WNBA with that reach

This is sheer madness.

I wonder if she brought drugs into a country like Japan or Singapore where you can get the death penalty for bringing in drugs what the US would do.
Anonymous
Nope, for the people that say they would rather leave then USA and it’s a horrible country, I bet she wants back in ASAP..

Im happy we are getting her. I sit on the other side of the political aisle, and Im irritated she doesnt respect our flag and our nation enough to stand for it. Nevertheless, we are a nation of citizens, not subjects. The country works for us, not the other way around. Being a citizen of the most powerful nation on earth (for now) comes with benefits. It could be worse. She could have let herself be used for propaganda. And, Im a war vet so I feel like Ive earned the right to be magnaminous toward people I disagree with-- its a feature, not a bug, that people can criticize our government or culture and still be full citizens with all the rights and priviledges.

No ticket sales. No one goes to the games. Unless you are a ticket buying fan, you have no grounds.

I don’t believe she did what they are accuse her of.
I think they lied about the whole thing.
I’m good with the deal.

I just wanted to respond to the bolded as an aside. I'm not a war vet but my dad and FIL are. I don't react as you do to people not standing for the flag--or the anthem, the pledge of allegiance, or whatever. I celebrate the fact that as an American, I don't have to engage in any performative (to me) nationalistic/patriotic expression.Isn't it wonderful that I can choose whether or not to stand for the flag?! Because I have lived in countries where you better stand up or else... Let's not measure each other's patriotism by outward displays such as standing for the flag. Nationalism of any kind is dangerous in my book. I have seen too much of it in countries with a loose grip on democracy.

Ok, Im not sure why youre lecturing me since I clearly say freedom of speech is a good part of our society. I can still be irritated with people that dont appear to agree with the baseline concept of the goodness of America. I wont want them to rot in a foreign prison, but I will be irritated. Like you are with me.

I chime in to point out that the deal would involve not just Griner but also Paul Whelan.

Please tell me she’s not honestly surprised that Russian police did not read her rights to her. Because if she said that, we are failing to educate our youth.

And the arms dealer goes free. I am sure no harm to the innocent will come of that.

Why wasn’t a deal for Whelan made before. What could be the motivating factors here?

Great - the arms dealer will be your new neighbor. Best of luck.
