Katie Cristol and the ACB seem to be worried that Matt deFerranti is going to receive a diluted vote because of Adam Theo (pro Missing Middle) and Audrey Clement (anti Missing Middle). Cristol just sent a letter to people who "participated" in the Missing Middle Community Conversations. As usual, Cristol does not provide the who story. She refers to the 600 people who "registered" for the conversations, but most of the slots were taken immediately. At most about 200 people actually "attended" the conversations.
Cristol also referred to the 600 who registered as "residents." I attended one of the Community Conversations and 4 out of the 10 people did not live in Arlington. They were also YIMBYs who tried to pack the Community Conversations. Beyond that Katie reiterates that the ACB "has not taken any action or made any decisions." She describes other steps that must be taken but they do not "effectuate any zoning changes." The earliest they could do something is the end of the year but there may be another public hearing needed in the first quarter 2023. Although Garvey, Cristol, and Dorsey are likely not to run again, they are closing circles to make sure deFerranti gets re-elected by pushing any decisions related to Missing Middle housing until well after the election. As predicted, this is watered down pandering to get deFerranti re-elected next week. |
The Arlington Co. Board needs to be voted out. They are ruining this county one bad decision at a time. |
| I’m voting for Audrey Clement. Yes, she’s kind of crazy, but I think the board and staff deserve to have to deal with her at this point. They clearly aren’t going to listen to other feedback. |
Me too. Never thought I would. But this MM proposal is garbage. |
| Clement also has my vote, as well as a number of the homeowners around me. It’s a shame bc Matt is a dedicated public servant with heaps of experience- I wish he wasn’t the sacrificial goat but here we are. |
Agreed. It kills me to vote for her, but it’s the only shot at getting this board to see sense. |
I’m voting Audrey as well. Might as well right? When the ACB rolls the dice on not listening to their constituents, this is what they get. Anything they do now is too little too late. |
+1 |
Poor Matt
I like him too but we're also voting from Clement on MM as a single issue |
I am curious if there was a Republican candidate who opposed missing middle, would you vote for them? Btw I think anyone in Arlington who is opposing Missing Middle is showing their true colors. Republicans at heart. Democrats for show. I think that should be Arlington's new slogan! |
I probably would. I’m an independent though, not a Dem. A single member of the 5 person board can’t do much anyway other than be a massive pain in the ass. The vast majority of the feedback on the MM proposal has been negative and they just choose to ignore that. Voting for Audrey is the only form of protest available. |
It would depend on their policies, right? Are they worried about critical race theory? Do they think Trump won in 2020? How do they feel about abortion? Affirmative action? I don't see the logic of "if you don't agree with this deeply flawed MM proposal you're a republican". |
| Missing Middle is the ultimate pro-developer policy. I wasn't aware that wanting to line the pockets of developers was a policy stance of Democrats? |
Exactly! It would cause a strain on natural resources, a strain on public services (especially schools) and won’t remotely benefit lower-income families. Why does voting against developers’ interest revoke my D card? |
DH and I will be voting for Audrey Clement next week for the same reasons as the PPs. We're also surprised to be doing this but it sounds like we will have plenty of company with our protest votes! |
