The Virginia Department of Education annually collects statistics on the number of students enrolled in public schools on September 30. Student counts are reported by grade assignment, race, ethnicity, disability, English proficiency, and economic status. The collection of race and ethnicity information as specified by the U.S. Department of Education is required for eligibility for federal education funds and for accountability reports. A student is reported as economically disadvantaged if he or she meets any one of the following criteria:
Is eligible for Free/Reduced Meals;
Receives Temporary Assistance for Needy Families;
Is eligible for Medicaid; or
Is a migrant or is experiencing homelessness.

That above makes perfect sense in a normal year.

However, every student in FCPS is eligible for free meals this year. So are they all therefore considered economically needy?

I’ve read it worded that free meals are available to all students.

No one is brave enough to call and ask how they calculated ED for the report? Or how they determined it during the application process - if the committee even saw that?

“All FCPS students (regardless of age) are eligible for free meals, as well as other county children that are eighteen (18) years and under. Parents/caregivers picking up meal kits for children should let staff know how many children's meals they need. Adults may purchase meal kits at the central kitchen sites. “

Yes, every student is ELIGIBLE for free meals this year.

Who cares?

More ED students will be represented at TJ. Fewer private school students.

More students from all over the county - every single MS.

More URM students.

More female students.

Umm, I don’t know. Maybe the kids who would like to access the coursework of TJ?

40% of kids that checked yes for the meals questions were admitted last year. 12% of the kids that checked No for the meals questions were admitted.

And all were qualified. Even the kids who aren’t from wealthy area or feeder schools are entitled to a TJ education.

Couldn't agree more. Just reading these clowns fight with each other or pretend the county as a whole somehow benefits when FCPS obsesses over the admissions to a single school (out of 200 or so schools in FCPS) is enough to make any reasonable person puke.

Okay, boss. We'll get right on it.

Youngkin doesn’t care about TJ. He was going to say whatever he had to to get elected. Making promises he couldn’t possibly keep and people were stupid enough to believe him and vote for him. SMH.

Qarni is already gone. Time to clean house in VDOE and soon enough in FCPS as well. So pleased McAwful won’t be around to suck up to the likes of the TJAAG frauds.

I’m sure the DeVos team have some friends who do that.
