Heitkamp and Manchin will decide what to do based on how Collins and Murkowski vote (because why tank their re-election campaigns with futile “no” votes), and you know they’re going to find that out in advance. Collins and Murkowski will decide together how they’re going to vote, and will vote the same way to give each other cover.

So if he’s confirmed, let us never forget it will be because Collins and Murkowski threw women under the bus in multiple respects. They should no longer get to play the centrist-supporter-of-women card.

The take away from this episode is the following:

1. Any candidate was going to be the target of a Dem search and destroy politics to block 5th seat going conservative

2. The SJC process is "broken" - we could have come to the same conclusion about an uncorroborated allegation without the Dems dragging TWO families through the mud. The new Chairman of the SJC will reform the process

3. The Dems will take a hit because of #2 and for attempting to weaponize the MeToo platform - the ruse was exposed and it is offensive to all sides

4. Kavanugh will be confirmed with 1 or 2 moderate Dems based on his 20+ years on the bench and excellent peer rating

Or:

1. Gorsuch got through fine. And Trump should have never put this guy forward. McConnell told this would happen and asked him not to nominate Kav because of his background. Whether anything was “proven” or not, this guy has skeletons.

2. Congress is broken, and the majority party in Congress for the last 8 years has been the Republicans.

3. If Kav is confirmed, the Republican losses in the midterm will be much worse than you can possibly imagine. Women who were upset about sexual assault put a Democrat into the Senate in Alabama. You seem to have no clue about the raw fury many women are feeling right now.

4. Unless two R senators vote no, Heitcamp and Manchin need to vote yes. It’s more important to Dems that they keep their seats than that they prove some point if the confirmation is going to happen. That’s how Dems take back the Senate. And shut down all consideration of any of Trumps nominees for anything, period. No hearings for any Trump nominee. And Trump has yet to fill more than half of the Senate confirmed appointments and has a penchant for firing members of his cabinet.

Two sides to every coin.

And—

5. Kavanaugh will always have an asterisks beside his name. He will always be a problem for the Court. And a Democratic House will impeach him. Will he keep his seat? Probably. Will he spend two years discussing in minute detail which other GP boy he had a Devil’s Triangle with and which orafice he entered? The same way he wanted to go with Bill Clinton? Yep. Will they subpoena all of his Bush era documents and got through them page by page and selectively embarrass him? Yep. Will he spdeserve it? Yep.

Right.

White women were so furious that they favored Roy Moore 63-34 percent. In fact, Doug Jones barely won mainly due to African Americans getting the vote out.
https://www.teenvogue.com/story/why-white-women-voted-for-roy-moore-in-the-alabama-senate-race

I know that the Democrats are trying to rile up millennial women to storm the polls in November, but they are playing with fire. Older women see through this and are not as keen on burning men at the stake over allegations of crimes that happened when they were minors. If anything, Kavanaugh controversy has gotten men more worked up than women.

You don't speak for older women. Older women who watched him testify are smart enough to know that this was not judicial comportment, and he was partisan and evasive. You can't deflect from that. R's are pushing him through for political reasons, whipping up the battle of the sexes to deflect from his more serious flaws, and not caring about the effect it will have on the legal system in our country. Older women see through this too.

You don’t speak for older women either. I am literally, an older woman (I am doubting you are). I live in a neighborhood with about 98% older women and men - literally. Most are older than I. I don’t speak for all older women either, but I can tell you what I have heard over the past two weeks.
While I have not spoken to EVERYONE in my neighborhood, I have chatted with quite a few. All but one person I have spoken with has said that they view this whole story as a warning sign that people can be falsely accused and found guilty without any evidence. Most of the older women here are simply appalled by the treatment given to Kavanaugh on the part of Democrats. They were happy to see him aggressively defend himself. The women in my neighborhood are natives of other states - Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, and New York, predominantly. A mix of Democrats and Republicans.
Just today, I was in a meeting. We were discussing procedures for the handling of funds collected for a function, and to make sure it is all accounted for. One of those in attendance was outlining a procedure to ensure we are all protected because, “as you know, people CAN be falsely accused.” Those were the exact words. And, everyone there agreed.
What has become abundantly clear with this whole, very sad story is that a majority of the media presented a totally one-sided view of these allegations. They took their sides, and the stories they printed and aired were incredibly biased toward that side. The people have tuned out to their narrative. But, they have taken note of the biased coverage and it has opened their eyes to how much of the media presents “news.” The media will go down as the big losers in this whole sordid story.

Collins and Flake just said the investigation was thorough. That's pretty damning, because they didn't qualify that with a statement like: "however I am unsure about his judicial temperament", etc.

Yes she is. Maine hates Kav, and her base is moderate and democratic women. And she made her bones as a pro-choice R. Every decision for women he makes will be hung around her neck as the person who decided if he wshould be on the Court.

Kav has a special strain of nastiness going on with Alaskan Natives, who got Murkowski elected. It is very hard to see how she votes Yes. It’s a somewhat state specific, Kav specific problem, move than a liberal/conservative issue. And I suspect this is why McConnell wanted someone else. Because this is someone Murkowski cannot support, period. And she shouldn’t. He would badly hurt her core constituency. She’d probably be a yes for anyone else. on the short list but Amy Barrett.

And there's a 2 million dollar fund set up against Collins if she votes yes.

There was a real possibility for that before the true soul of the Democratic party was bared with the character assassination efforts. That would be hard for anyone to forget. I view this as a lose-lose.

Character assassination?

You are saying this professor of religious studies is a liar. That, my friend, is character assassination.

He is willing to talk to the FBI that he is 100% certain that the person who whipped his penis out in Ramirez's face was Kavanaugh based on what he was told the night of or following day. And he told someone else a few years later. And that person is willing to talk to the FBI to confirm he was told the story.

You are saying these men are liars. They are just as professional, just as accomplished as Kavanaugh, and have nothing to gain by going public except death threats and harassment from crazed conservatives.

Tell us WHY you think they are liars and why you think they would lie.

https://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/will-the-fbi-ignore-testimonies-from-kavanaughs-former-classmates

Lots to gain. Lots.

Says everything about you that you make that assertion without posting anything to support it.

What's really become clear during this dumpster fire of an administration is just how conspiratorial conservatives are. They believe there are so many liars out there, so many ordinary Americans who are willing to stick their neck out to lie about things like Trump grabbing them by the pussy, or how drunk a Supreme Court nominee was on a regular basis in high school and college, because they are so hyper partisan that they don't care that they will receive death threats for going public with their allegations.

It's pretty shocking how you always go for the more convoluted solution to a question, that dozens and dozens of citizens lie en masse about their interactions with Republicans.

I agree that there seems to be a generational divide here as well, not just a gender divide. Older people lived at a time where it was automatically the woman's fault, and when people (men) in authority were given a lot more respect. They probably aren't as attuned to social media, where much of the #MeToo energy has developed.

Seriously. How about RBG's public comments regarding Trump being the Republican nominee that she later had to apologize for.
