2024 Boys Private School Results /Game Schedules/ Commentary

That is sort of how Landon has always operated going way back to the Bordley days. They are invested in getting younger players real game experience.
I didn't watch the game but it looks like they won by 5 and had it under control. Trying to beat Dematha by 18 goals doesn't help anyone

That is a correct assessment. I had a son who played for Bordley and he wanted these games to get everyone on the field and he also made sure to never run up the score.

IAC's signature win of 2024 is Bullis over 6th best in MIAA. Bullis, Landon, and GP all lost to mid/lower tier MIAA teams, but none of them have a major victory to hang their hat on. Best teams in the country play top flight schedules. Only DC teams to do that are SJC (went 1-4) and Gonzaga (0-3). Landon tested itself twice outside IAC and went 0-2.

Not sure why the Landon coach keeps making the same mistakes. He did the same thing against the Heights and it almost backfired. He also ran three lines of middies against Dematha from the get go, of which 4 of Demathas goals were scored while the third line was on for Landon. Coach needs to get it together if he wants to be successful on the national level and not blow games.

They're ranked in the top 10 nationally in some outlets and won both of those games. Landon has always gone deep when they can so they lower roster kids who work hard in practice some game time.

Fans should celebrate coaches modeling caring about the entire roster instead of lamenting not winning by enough.

Agree. Landon is actually building depth again by getting younger players time. I have yet to understand why HS coaches in this area shorten the bench so quickly, at least at the higher level private schools. The high level talent is recruited in to about 6-8 schools and then the coach doesn't develop them at all. It happens everywhere. I get they need to win (which Landon did), but getting a third line two runs a game doesn't cost you the game; or at least shouldn't, if the HS coach can actually coach at all.

It's no wonder kids search for coaching/development from clubs, consultants, individual development around here...HS coaches stuggle to with talent develop, plain and simple.

Landon has always done a good job of developing players. And getting field time is part of this and also helps morale.

Spalding sits in 4th with the win over McDonogh, not 6th.
Landon had 3 chances to beat maybe the #1 team in the country and couldn't pull it off, losing by 1.
Someone earlier said Bullis handled Spalding. 1 goal win but a win.
GZ and SJC don't get any points for scheduling and losing out of area games.
GZ is the focal point for all comparisons.

who did SJC beat that is being considered a top flight team?

Teams schedule games and then play those games. Just because Loyola Blakefield or St Marys is having a down year and won't look good on paper they can't just cancel the game.

Most of the IAC programs have historical relationships, and like to keep them in tact which is why the schedules look like they do.

I usually complain about GP playing a soft schedule but I atleast understand the relationships they have built over time being the driving factor in the schedule.

I don’t think Taft is the top flight team you make them out to be.

Let's look at some facts:

Bullis has a great win over Spalding (Spalding is currently in 4th in the MIAA A Division)
Landon has great wins over Bullis, GP and Highland Park out of Texas
SJC has a great win over Gilman and Taft.
Gonzaga has a great win over Bullis.
Prep, has no good wins this spring as both Loyola and Saint Mary's appear to be very down this year compared to recent years.

Best teams in the country play top flight schedules. Only DC teams to do that are SJC (went 1-4) and Gonzaga (0-3). Landon tested itself twice outside IAC and went 0-2.

I respect programs that want to play a top-flight national schedule. As a previous poster pointed out, some programs regardless if they are up or down, will always continue to play one another (i.e Loyola Blakefield vs GP or Landon vs Saint Pauls etc). You don't get points for losing to opponents on the national stage - you need to win. Moral victories don't matter.

While everyone has their subjective viewpoints here, Inside Lacrosse produces a daily RPI Rating that incorporates teams SOS, and how common opponents perform throughout the season.

This ranking above is different than the weekly Q-Collar rankings as it is purely objective and derived from computer algorithms and takes into account no human assessment. The RPI ratings get more accurate as the season goes on as more game results are inputted into the system.

Landon has more quality wins this spring than the Cadets.

Bullis, GP and Highland Park - are all quality wins for the Bears. I guess you can maybe throw in Saint Mary’s (they did beat Gonzaga earlier in the year but the Saints are down and have lost 5 straight games)

SJCs… beat wins this year is Taft and maybe PVI and Good Counsel.

The algorithm is off.

The RPI rating makes more sense as the season goes on
