Public Trump Impeachment Hearing Mega Thread

Anonymous
Now that articles of impeachment are being drafted, can we please start a new mega thread? This one is getting hard to read.

Did Turley really make the argument that Bribery, extortion, obstruction of justice, abuse of power, campaign finance violations are no big deal?

He said we’re proving them too fast, or something.

Basically, he said that the Democrats needed to give republican a chance to realize that Trump is totally unethical and acts in a clearly illegal manner and we should have a longer impeachment hearing so they can come to their senses.

In a way I agree with him (although I'm not convince that some Re

publicans' immunity to absorbing facts in this case will ever give way to a rational respect for our democracy and a distaste for treason) but if that's the best the Republicans can do, they are toast.

He said that the Democrats' charges have not been proven. Period.

Isn't that leapfrogging or something? Stensenbrenner, I think it was, complained about no cross examination of witnesses as Clinton got to do, for instance. But best I can tell Clinton's defense occurred in the Senate, not the House. I realize this is not like a criminal proceeding--the grand jury vs trial analogy does not completely hold--but I've been on a grand jury and we were told over and over again it was not about proving the person committed the crime, only determining whether there was sufficient evidence to indict. (Never mind the fact that a lot of people on the grand jury seemed to be completely convinced the parties were guilty and didn't care there was no cross examination or defense witnesses).

I do think yesterday's hearing was an exercise in . . . something. Trying to educate the public about impeachment? Is that what it was about?

A kangaroo court run by Captain Kangaroo.

Playin' solitaire till dawn with a deck of fifty-one
Smokin' cigarettes and watchin' Captain Kangaroo
Now don't tell me I've nothin' to do

I'm a liberal, but I love this song. When I'm driving alone on a summer day, I roll down the windows, blast this tune, and sing along

He is such a despicable person. What kind of parent does that to their own child?

Does what? It was liberal Pamela Karlan that brought his son into this debacle.

Oh she forced them to turn it into a fundraiser? She’s got some power over them!

Not as despicable as the woman who made the joke.

It was one sentence in an eight-hour hearing. No one would have said anything about it without Melania’s tweet.

Think again.
Even a poster on here said it was the best line of the hearing.....

This was the best line:

"The President can name his son Barron but not make him a baron."

And, it was trending on Twitter, so people DID notice.

But it’s true. A president can name her child Princess but not make her a princess. That is truth in this country.

The Obama girls were 13 and 10 when Melania and the American right openly questioned the family's religion, linneage and patriotism.

Save the faux outrage over something that was a quip that did nothing to disparage the president's son.

And let's not forget the utterly vile things said about Chelsea Clinton.

“Inflating a single irrelevant line of testimony until it’s the size of a Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade float is a conscious decision to obscure the rest of the impeachment proceedings rather than mount an actual defense against the charges at issue.”

Perfect.
