I also think this about the sheriff. I am concerned it’s going to be like the JonBenét Ramsey case. These local sheriffs department do not have the knowledge or the resources to handle this type of crime. The vocals want to be in control and take all the glory whereas the feds want to solve the crime and are willing to step back without requiring a pat on the back

- An abduction gone wrong to extort Savannah and Nancy died on the scene - no credible ransom because she passed away. This would be someone familiar with the family who in passing knew Nancy’s daughter was a famous news anchor.
- A burglary gone wrong (makes less sense because nothing was taken)
- A targeted but random abduction/murder. The perpetrator had no idea who her daughter was and that the case would blow up like this.
- A targeted and intentional abduction - Nancy is still alive (this seems unlikely given that there hasn’t been any credible ransom note.)

Nothing taken makes perfect sense with a burglary gone wrong. Most burglars do not want to kill anyone. Murder is a much higher penalty than burglary. If you accidentally kill someoen in a burglary, your best bet is to take NOTHING. If you steal a laptop or tv or jewelry you are just increasing your risk that you get caught by like 100 fold. Cops don’t put much effort into catching burglars so long as they are reasonable about it (don’t take anything ridiculously expensive, no one hurt). Once someone gets killed there is gojng to be a major focus on tracking the stolen goods. And if they catch you with the stolen goods, you are pretty much handing them a conviction. They were probably hooked that if they took the body, people would assume the old lady just wandered off and they could at least buy tjemselves some time. Tibs is what I think happened.

This is my thought, too. Burglary by a stranger that went wrong and she died before the burglar could grab anything of value, so, like you said, they turn their attention to dumping the body and buying enough time to leave the country.

Except would a burglar arrive with a backpack filled to the brim with a tarp and god knows what else? A light in their mouth? Wearing pairs of gloves and a ski mask? It seems too pre meditated to be a simple burglary.

No mention of a tarp anywhere - where are you seeing a tarp mentioned ?

I don’t know why people keep comparing to her. Jon Benet’s body was found the same day. This case is worse because there’s no closure and no answer.

Jon benet was not kidnapped so that ransom note was obviously written by Pat. Sbtc (saved by the cross) is very southern , not something a foreign faction would know.

This is still top news on ABC. Over Jesse Jackson's death, the Olympics, the woman killed in SC in an Ice raid- everything. All the small details. It's not appropriate at this point. Yes it's awful, but it's not daily front line news. People die every day, kids are kidnapped everyday. We don't hear about it non stop or at all.

It reminds me of the lead up to Iraq war when Laci Peterson and Amber smart soaked up all the news. Some food for thought. If there are no updates, it should not get 30 minutes of coverage. What’s going on in Venezuela? Iran? Does anyone even know? Of course not. Our news isn’t reporting about that

I am a teacher and can confirm that backpack was full of everything sent home since 3rd grade. There’s a really old package of fruit snacks in there somewhere.

Seriously though, My first thought when I saw the full backpack was that he is homeless and all of his belongings are in there.

This story has not been near the top of the fold (if at all on the home page) of the New York Times for days. Maybe you need to turn off the tv (it's all junk) and find a serious source of news- the NYT, BBC, Times, Telegraph, Independent, CBC, LeMonde... Anything but the "news passing as entertainment" crap that is pushed in the US.
