DA vs ECNL vs everything else

I was at a tournament this weekend and saw Loundon 04 and 05 girls. They still look strong but I understand they have lost talent to FCV. Does anyone know why Loudon 05 girls left mid-season for FCV if DA does not start DA until Fall 2018? Also, I noticed that FCV has two u13 girls teams that are at the elite level. Will they combine both to make a DA team? I hear horrible stories about FCV but if they are so bad, why do they continue to get talent and why is their DA program so strong?

Because FCV promises things like college scholarships and impressionable players and parents jump at the prospect.

And I’ve heard parents say they want their DD on a “winning” team (even when her position is bench).

I don’t doubt that the training is good, but some of the antics by people involved with that club are more reminiscent of “kicking & screaming”

Folks, these comments can describe many clubs. Please share specifics. The club has had many successes but I hear from people that have a negative view of the club despite uits success..

No one here is disputing their success? We can discuss their practices, it’s a public forum.

Some many people will sell their souls for wins. When your child is at u16, you will look back and realize how dumb your were to care so much.

A kid not getting substantial playing time on a winning team will get surpassed by the 80 minute player on a sub par team. Especailly at the DA level.

So, come holler at me in 5 years and tell me about your u13 jeff cup trophy. No one cares.

The 05 Red girls got a new coach this past year after having the same coach since U9. The new coach evaluated the team with a clean slate and some girls that were former favorites that got most of the minutes lost those minutes under the new coach. The coach also had another team and significant other responsibilities for the club. Parents were not happy. By mid-season this continued to upset these parents and 6-7 of them banded together and left for FCV.

For 07, the coaches for the top 2 teams are keeping their teams. Also for ECNL each coach has 1 team only so they can concentrate 100% of their time on the team.

I believe the 05 team is a fluke. I could be wrong but right now the 07 team parents are happy.

The other poster is wrong. All of the Red 07 players could probably make FCV Elite. All 15. Player for player Loudoun 07 Red is better than FCV Elite and the parents from both programs know this. FCV Elite has a couple of good younger players they rely on. However, that team has lost 3 times to Loudoun Red 07. The first two times the score was 10-0 and 10-0. The last time it was a closer game but Loudoun mid-fielders were injured. FCV parents probably look at that and think that they are catching Loudoun. But look at how FCV 07 does in tournaments vs Loudoun 07 Red. It is not a top program at that age group. Loudoun parents know this and are not rushing to FCV to make that team but they know it's a step back.

FCV 07 is also not deep. FCV Premier (#2 team) lost to Loudoun's 4th team in league play this spring and 2 of the Elite players played on FCV Premier that game.

That is only if you subscribe to the theory that most of the development happens during games. It doesn't. It happens in training more than in games. The DA has it right (as do the most successful clubs around the world) in terms of training to game ratio of 4-1 or 5-1. Some clubs are 2-1. If you have a good training environment, with a good trainer/coach then it may actually be better to come off the bench than to play a full game on a team with a lesser training environment and lesser trainer/coach.

BS alert. We were at FCV for many years and I never heard promises of scholarships at any level.

Why Loudoun players leave for FCV is a good question though because it gets to the heart of why there is player movement between any set of clubs. I think there are three reasons why players move. Level of play, record, and training environment. FCV's GDA entry virtually guarantees the best available level of competitive opponents, and by virtue of their previous ECNL history and player pool, and fortunate geographic circumstances they have been able to maintain, and in some cases improve the level of play within the club. Secondly, because of this, they have an pretty impressive record in their division, and we will see how that translates at the national level shortly. The competitive aspect draws in the parents more than the kids I think, but since they pay the bills, this contributes to movement. Finally, they do have a great head coach in Puppione, and a supporting cast. From the outside, unless you really do your research, it is hard to see anything but the first two factors, level of play and record. It is the training environment and relationship issues that only become evident after you get involved for a while.

IMO, FCV suffers most from poor parent relationships, a lack of integrity, and a fairly high level of arrogance (staff, players, and parents all). This forum is littered with examples). Their coaching depth is not great, and is subject to a revolving door, but this is common among many clubs. There are also fundamental issues with field access. Additionally, there is some backlash due to the fact that their talent level is relatively high, so lots of promising players get turned away, or relegated to the NPL level (or now EDP for some ages). They cater pretty well if you are on the starting 11, but their interest in players drops off pretty quickly beyond that. Lots of folks leave the club and bash the club here due to this.

Loudoun 06G Red is a very good team also. I would say they are better than FCV.

Spoken like a true ignoramus. Training is training? Don't bother posting anymore after that one.

Mentality of a FCV DA non starter who will be replaced in a year

I rest my previous case about the arrogance level in the club.
