NP. Lol. Sex abuse victims would like a word. |
Well in this case, it’s because the black kid has admitted what he did, and there’s video of it, and he is the one who chose to film it and put it online. And also because the claim that she was faking her emotion in order to get them killed is outlandish. As far as the benefit of the doubt goes, I can believe they are essentially good kids who just enjoyed biking (which is great - I am a big bike advocate) who were being a little selfish and tricky (normal behavior). The only reason we we are even here parsing this to death is because THEY drastically raised the stakes by posting it online, and the race grifters created an internet mob againsy the PA. |
I'm sure they're discussing it--it's negative publicity. Best thing they could do is quietly change the rules. Like, you can't re-rent the same bike within something like 3 hours after docking it. And if the records show you were traveling with others, you can't rent their bikes out either. Although thinking about it, that would be inconvenient for people who are just stopping to drop something off or pick up a food order. |
My lawyer gut check is they won’t do anything that could get them any more embedded in the litigation than they already are. If they change the policies, Marino will surely try to get a witness to say why, and it will immediately be construed as racist reasons. |
I see so many referring to them as men. Just a few weeks ago the headlines about the rock throwing incident referred to the people who murdered someone as teens. (3 Colorado Teens Charged With Murder in Fatal Rock-Throwing Incident) I was shocked to see they were 18. Meanwhile, these teen boys are men. https://www.npr.org/2014/03/19/291405871/consequences-when-african-american-boys-are-seen-as-older |
I’m sure they are well aware of cases of bike-camping and people taking serial rides to stay under the cap. It’s probably not a big enough issue to be worth changing the policy. |
So would I but now we have more information and this isn't what happened. |
I am one of the MANY people who first saw this video with a caption like "white woman steals bike and then weaponizes tears against black kids" and didn't give her any benefit of the doubt. At all. My first response to the video was "what a B" and "oh great, another one." It was only after I saw that there was some controversy over it, and went and rewatched the video, that I realized I'd jumped to conclusions based on how the video was presented to me. A lot of people did the exact same thing. Most people probably never looked back into it, either. The woman is on leave from her job and cannot presently return to her apartment. What "benefit of the doubt" has she received? Also, hi, she actually extended benefit of the doubt to the teens because when her lawyer came out to defend her, he focused their arguments on the people who doxed her and defamed her online. When asked if they intended to track those teens down and press charges or sue them, he said no, and he emphasized the boys were very young and that they had no interest in going after them. She offered them the benefit of the doubt and simply wanted the people calling her a white supremacist online to stop. But then the boy came out of hiding and his mom started calling this woman entitled and racist. WTF? She'd made a good faith effort to de-escalate with regards to the boys and then they come out swinging for her. She deserves the benefit of the doubt and didn't get it. They got the benefit of the doubt and then wasted it. |
Agree. And because a pp has aptly demonstrated what's maintained more widely, that there's simply no way for a white woman to defend herself against physical aggression and she should just quietly efface herself. |
The only people making it about race are the ones who are racist themselves. This had nothing to do with race and either party could be any race and this dispute would have happened. These aren't kids. They are 17-18-year-old young men graduating high school right now. The bike company needs to fix their system and now allow rentals but the easy way to get around that would be for the men to trade around bikes. They were just out for a joyride and that's ok but at the time they did not have the bike rented. |
Nobody knew how old they were until the interview came out yesterday. When this video first came out it was unclear if they were minors or not. To me it seemed like immature behavior so I guessed from 17-20 but wouldn’t have been surprised at 22-23. So I called them “boys” to give them the benefit of the doubt - but then was told thay was racist - and now am told “men” is also racist. 🤷♀️ This is the kind of cr*p that rightfully gets labeled woketastic. |
It is 100% what happened and the boy has even confirmed it. They forcibly redocked the bike after she rented it. There is debate about whether she asked to use the bike and he declined (and whether he should be allowed to decline), or whether she got on an unattended bike. But yes, they redocked the bike with her on it and then we have video evidence of them yelling at her, saying it was "his bike" (this is vague AT BEST, and I personally don't think he can claim that -- he'd docked the bike 7 minutes prior at that point, it didn't belong to him in any way, shape, or form), claiming she was fake crying, harassing her about her baby, etc. Even if you think she elbowed past him to get on the bike, it doesn't change any of the facts we know: the bike was docked and available according the the app at the time, she rented the bike and they forced her back into the dock, they surrounded her and harassed her until she left. Those are facts, not subject to debate and we have hard evidence for them. |
Looking at the video, there is one man who is a jerk and spewing nasty comments but the other men seemed harmless and just wanted the bike. However, you have to look at the moment in time where she had a man holding the bike she was on preventing her from moving or initially getting off the bike. What would you do in that situation? You would probably call for help, cry, freak out, panic, or maybe you are one of the few who could stay calm and try to talk it out. However, she just got off a 12 hour shift as a PA and 6 months pregnant. Once could assume she was pretty tired and just wanted to get home. The bikes are cheaper/quicker depending on where you are going which is why they are popular. |
Everyone younger than the age of majority counts as a kid, sorry folks. |
The teens confirmed this is what happened. Grifters like Monique say things like "the bike was redocked" but the teens said they moved the bike back into the dock with her sitting on it. |
