Why do people hate Yu Ying and Basis so much?

Anonymous
I just don't understand.

People hate Basis? I haven't been paying attention.

Most of the hate for YY comes from people who want preference in admissions for Mandarin and Cantonese speakers and are mad that YY does not break DCPCS rules for them.

Nah, YY hatred comes honestly, from dealing with the school leadership.

Really? What's wrong with the leadership?

Dude, do a search. Let's not beat this dead horse AGAIN.
Signed,
a YY parent who has had both good and bad experiences at school, but handled them AT SCHOOL, not here.

In DCUM land:

Reason #1 - stupid ass threads like this one.

Go outside and stop this crap - the weather's gorgeous and your kid could use the fresh air.

I agree OP. I have experience with YY and not Basis but agree that there is a ton of negativity about both on this site. With that said, though, I think it is actually a limited number of negative posters who comment repeatedly. Basis is too new to have figures (though I've seen the posts about data from Tucson) but I would say that YY's very low attrition rate (my DC is in K and the only people who have left were due to major job/city moves.

I think in both cases it is a reaction to extreme boosterism. Its a fine line, founders need to promote their school, but it can also prompt a backlash.

Disagree. As mom says, if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all. No one HAS to respond to "extreme boosterism." Civility would dictate that one simply tunes it out and follows another thread or leaves DCUM altogether. You describe it as an involuntary response and that's bunk; people choose to be nasty. If you want to be an ombudsman, fine, have at it, but don't make excuses for the effluvia that some people post.

Overexposure. Like Snookie Kardashians. I've never watched their shows, so guess i can't judge, but I'm sick of hearing about them.

The effluvia? No one HAS to turn every single thread into a YY debate and no one has to start a thread titled "why does everyone hate me? I PrOMiSE I'm nice!" Yet...

My mom took it a step further, "If you don't have anything to say that is not entirely motivated by your own self-interests, say it once if you must, and then shut up child." Civility would actually entail the perspective that the world does not revolve around ones self. I've seen a number of your YY brethren tell you to can it, but it seems you apparently cannot help yourself. So please, for the love of god, if you don't want to be hated, STOP!

Since your experience with motherhood included a mom who told you to "shut up," and you take that as sage wisdom, it makes sense you find it compulsory to respond to self-centered posts. So what if someone "says look at me" or "please validate my existence." Big whoop. If it is so pathetic, why respond with vitriol?

Op asked the question sweetheart. My mama also still says "bite me" on occasion. Sage is right.

Funny how the YY and BASIS haters will flock to the YY and BASIS threads and then whine and complain incessantly about whatever it is they see as "boosterism" there. If you don't like seeing the boosterism, if you don't like YY or BASIS, the answer is really quite simple:

DON'T CLICK ON THREADS THAT SAY YY or BASIS.

Nobody is forcing you to read them, nobody is forcing you to respond.
