Why aren't we talking about Novak Djokovic

I AM scared of their names...!

You must not be a real tennis fan. They are very well known.

I think the above pp was referring to the fact that in most Slavic languages, Medved means a bear and Zver means a beast?

Dude just needs to give up and go home. Does he really WANT to play in front of an Australian crowd right now?

I hope” Novax” sticks it to them big time. Not because I am against vaccines but because I hate crazy radicals of all colors and types. And Australian govt is exactly that.

Are you an Australian citizen? If not, why does it matter what you think. Australian citizens get to weigh in on the rules for entry into their country (and many many more are against Novak's entry/playing), and in American we weigh in on who comes to our country. I can't imagine Americans taking it to well if a bunch of foreigners were arguing we should allow someone in against our rules.

Are you kidding?
Have you been paying attention to our southern border?

Regardless, their Covid strategy has been insane and to no avail. They have lock downs, "camps" for Covid patients, massive restrictions and other idiotic policies that have not worked.
The immigration office had approved Djokovic's entry. The PM overturned it. Glad the judge saw the folly in it all.
And, I don't have any problem judging Australia for their insanity. I went to the AO a few years ago. It was great and the Australian people were fabulous. It is hard to believe that they would tolerate the authoritarian measures their govt. has put in place. TBH - I think the only reason our govt. hasn't taken similar steps is the massive push back they have received from citizens and businesses.
I am not a big Djokovic fan and I hope he doesn't win this tournament. But, given the fact that he got the green light to come, he should be given the opportunity.

+1 million

Australia has gone off the rails during this pandemic.

So we are going to let Canadian and European views of the U.S. affect U.S. policy?

My understanding is that this appeal is going to be much harder to win than the last one. Canceling an individual's visa is within the remit of the immigration minister. Djokovic didn't help himself at all with that whole photo shoot thing last month while positive; supports the minister's argument that he is a threat to public health and order as the grounds for cancellation.

I also absolutely love that the minister waited until just after 5pm on a Friday when the courts closed for the weekend to issue the cancellation. Troll job 10/10.

He is such a selfish dirtbag. All of his recent behaviors are just further proof that he only cares about himself and no one else, and believes the rules do not apply to him.

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out!

On the one hand, it is a funny troll job. On the other hand, the draws were released yesterday. If Novak can't play, it sucks that a qualifier couldn't have taken his position in the draw.

Perhaps they will scramble to re-do his portion of hte draw if he is kicked out?

I don’t care about him but I applaud him for standing his ground and exposing the craziness of Australian authorities to the world. It’s just absurd.
I also feel sorry for the less known players who were exposed when this all came to light - they were initially let in but then kicked out.
Australia is not a democracy in how it first treated its refugees and then its citizens and visitors. Unfortunately I have to take it off my bucket list to visit.

The German media has exposed enough evidence to prove that he probably faked a positive Covid test. Either that or he willfully broke quarantine at the time and exposed a bunch of kids unmasked. He lied on his travel declarations. He could have quarantined for 2 weeks and gotten in legally that way but thought he was too good for that. He should not be applauded for anything and the way to stand his ground on principle was to enter unvaxxed and do the 2-week quarantine. Australia is not the only country that requires that. But no, Novak is above that, he's too good for the laws that apply to everyone else, he thinks he should just be able to lie and sneak and get away with whatever he wants to.

Pick someone who actually deserves sympathy to applaud, not this rich lying arrogant jerk. The refugee issue is totally separate and he gets zero credit on that account.

Dp. I actually like Djokovic and I hoped he could play after all. Then I recalled how Serena has had the hammer brought down on her and how Osaka was treated for skipping press due to mental health issues. One of these things is not like the others....

So glad someone has finally stood up to these anti vaccine bullies.

A Covid infection is not even a possible reason for vaccine exemption in Australia. You have to have a medical reason why you CAN’T take the vaccine, not a reason why you don’t think you need to.

He tried to game the system (poorly) and is getting called out. If he didn’t like Australia’s rules, he was not forced to travel there.

I’m watching this with an outsized amount of schadenfreude.
