They pretend it's stopping them when they're really anti-vax |
Teacher here who had several conversations with custodians about the importance of vaccination. Once they understood a bit more about the way vaccines worked they got them. We just need credible sources sharing factual info. |
Thank you! |
If the Mayor doesn’t have to follow her own mask protocols, should we expect her to have an consistency of follow-through when it comes to other Covid protocols including ones concerning education? |
thank you for doing that. but it’s frankly insane that we will *shut schools down for 1.5 years, yet don’t have the political will to require custodians to get vaccinated. a single custodian with covid could put an entire school into quarantine. |
Just so it's straight from the horse's mouth, here's the most recent statement from WTU on reopening (July 22):
https://www.wtulocal6.net/re_opening_district_of_columbia_public_schools Salient points, at least to me: They start as saying "schools need to open" but then go on with several paragraphs of "buts". WTU is against concurrent simulcasting (they say they would like DCPS to "ban" the practice, so they are pretty clear there). Their safety concerns are about air quality, distancing, masking, and to a lesser extent cohorting and entry/exit staggering. They have questions about exposure quarantining, and are bringing up how differential vaccination rates by Ward may impact that. They are concerned about learning gaps from last year. |
Literally not a word in the statement about the vaccination of adults in schools. Smh. |
That same email/statement talked about encouraging members to get vaccinated. They also mentioned resources to help people get vaccinated. |
I feel like we don't know if a vax or test protocol is on the table, or even if such a thing requires negotiation. I'm maintaining hope that its under discussion at present. |
Also I agree that it seems clear that WTU supports getting vaccinated and wants to help people get vaccinated. I think that's positive from a messaging standpoint (in terms of others who might look to teachers to take their cues on whether to vax or not). |
I think I missed it. Where in this statement did they have that? |
+1 I am also not seeing it. |
PP but sorry you are right. They mention it in other statements (I am on my phone and don’t feel like searching for them) but not this statement. So you are correct. |
Thanks for the clarification. |
The WTU supports vaccination efforts just as much as Mitch McConnell does.
For some WTU teachers, like other subsets of the population, it has no real effect. It should be everyone's mission to work on getting another person vaccinated. |
