Then I can understand why their parents are against it. Their first teams could easily be ecnl. |
Beach would be better suited for full ECNL in that division just because of travel. They can get to Raleigh quicker than DC. Charlotte is a long haul for anyone except for maybe Richmond who can get right on 85. Still a solid 4+ hour drive for them. |

Big winner in this seems to be the original VPL teams who got absorbed by ECNL. Their competition in ECNL-r got much better with the addition of these new clubs and is nice selling point even if they don't ever make full ECNL.
The old CCL might have been better competition for some of the new teams. But the difference won't be huge and is price to pay for getting their main teams in ECNL. Overall, the consolidation seems to leave fewer chairs for other clubs. It's especially true for those still in CCL. Another benefactor could be NCSL which could see their competition significantly improve at the top if some good teams move there. |
All of which speaks to if there was a process to promote and relegate teams into these elite leagues they would be all the better year to year. Difficult sure but in theory it would be great. |
Think they're on the borderline. They will be at the top of ECNL-R, but would be at the bottom of ECNL. |
Would be great if ECNL absorbed NCSL too and allowed pro/rel all the way from top to bottom. |
teams aren't paying ECNL dues and charging parents ECNL based fees (and all of the training add ons that are expected for that level of performance) to have to explain why the team got relegated in is being replaced by PPA next season |
| Where does EDP fit into this landscape? |
edp is a step above NCSL for individual teams at NCSL clubs that want to play at a higher level. For some ECNL teams, it's a place to put their pre-ecnl teams and their non-ecnl teams |
| So who still has their first teams in CCL? |
Thanks, this makes sense. I understand the point of the league now. Is it typically for smaller clubs (?) that don't consistently have a high level team? You have definitely all convinced me that CCL has no raison d'etre. I am not sure ECNL-R does either, however. And why two "elite" leagues?? Wish there a way to keep competition more local (and more logical). |
You do nit want ECNL involved. Trust me. It’s about money and killing competition. |
"Virginia Valor" that's it? |
It already exists, and it's called NCSL. Choose to move your DC to a team that plays in NCSL in one of the top divisions. |
...and play Arlington and Loudoun's 'D' teams. |
