You know the answer. Every one of the Republican-endorsed candidates (Palathingal, Buford, DeStefano, Karloutsos, Tompkins, Bayer, Pafford, Mosley, Ramirez Drain, Schultz, Wilson) has come out against "equity." The very idea threatens them to the core.

The Democrats support One Fairfax, but don't agree that it means what the Republicans claim. The independent candidate in Dranesville (Mobasheri) also appears to support it, if means promoting equal opportunities for students, rather than guaranteeing equal outcomes.

Got it. We'll vote for Republican-endorsed candidates exclusively. Time to change.

The dust will settle and, at most, three Republicans will get elected.

I would love to know why the Dem majority board (which has been so for some years) needed a policy to tell them to treat students fairly. Many assume Repubs default is caring only for rich whites and that Dems treat all ethnicities races genders sexualities ability levels with equal intensity of care and consideration.

Why have they not been fair in the past?

It’s analogous to a committee of a corporate board that has a charter. The committee legally might not need a written charter to perform certain functions, but having one memorializes their responsibilities.

The Board has fallen short in the past because they are elected officials who often aspire to higher office and allow decisions on things like boundaries to be shaped by the loudest, wealthiest parents. Both the Democratic and Republican members have fallen short at times of what basic fairness might require. The Democrats at least want to do better, while the Republicans insist there is no problem and argue that discussing equity is a waste of time.

But the people elected Democrats.

Why be afraid of fairness when that's supposed to define you?

Agree. Look at the Dem's accomplishment on equity this year:

$$ for menstrual equity
gender "equity" in bathrooms
renaming school to almost $1 million
One Fairfax and plan for boundary changes based on SES (planned, yet to be approved)
New policy for renaming schools which has very little community input

I am a lifelong democrat living in the Dranesville district, I am done with the liberal, socialist agendas of today’s democrats, I am voting republican in this SB election.

Sure you are, lol.

You needed candidates with more cross-over appeal to make this pitch. Instead you went with folks who’d show up on Sebastian Gorka’s far-right radio show (or whose spouses are on Donald Trump’s payroll).

Why can't Brabrand say "One Fairfax"?

Why stop working on boundary policy just because the public started paying attention?

Voters need to beware of Ardavan Mobasheri - he claims his campaign is about honesty and integrity but he has been anything BUT. Aside from only living in this state for 2 years and having NO experience in public schools or Fairfax County schools, he has been spewing hateful things about Herndon schools and its residents since April when several Great Falls residents began manufacturing hysteria surrounding a boundary change that has been only supposed and hypothetical. All in the interests of protecting their own wealth and property values - screw those less fortunate - they WORKED for what they have (unlike anyone else living outside of Great Falls apparently). Once he declared his candidacy in June, most of his comments on NextDoor magically disappeared. Luckily, screenshots were taken.

Direct quote from Ardavan Mobasheri on NextDoor on April 7, 2019:
"The problems with Herndon HS are not supposed to be thrown on the back of Western GF residents. It is for the county and resident of Herndon to resolve. I don't live there, chose not to live there and picked a town so that my children would not have to go to the Herndon schools. Might I suggest sending the kids from Mclean to Herndon and asking Mclean residents to work together and solve the issues of Herndon HS!"

Anyone living outside of Great Falls should be very wary of this candidate who now pretends to have the interests of Herndon and McLean residents in mind, but really only cares about his personal property value.

Oh yeah, and has anyone checked out his campaign finance reports at https://cfreports.elections.virginia.gov/ ??? He may not want or accept endorsements or donations of the Democratic and Republican parties, but his primary campaign financier to date is Ralph Cioffi - google him if you want to know why this is concerning - and on July 6, he solicited donations from an out of state community group on Facebook. So who will he be beholden to? Local residents and local political parties or out-of-state disgraced financiers who don't have a stake in Fairfax County education.

Shady doesn't even begin to cover it...

The truly shady thing is, he was hoping to get the Democratic Party endorsement for school board. When he didn't get it, he launched his independent campaign.

His views are largely aligned with those of Karloutsos, the main differences being that he is more protective of Great Falls and she is more overtly critical of One Fairfax. But at the end of the day each is running primarily to guard against anyone ever getting moved out of the Langley district. Whatever other positions they’ve taken are in furtherance of that goal and/or afterthoughts.

I usually vote Democratic but I think one Fairfax is really going nowhere. Any proposed boundary changes in the name of balanced demographics will start a storm and will end up being a waste of time. I just want someone to focus on academics.

Bingo.

Our School Board left that station a long time ago.

False dichotomy based on a phony premise.
