Who Are the Annoying People Who Ride Their Bikes on River Road During Morning Rush Hour???

yeah, when people attack cyclists, and post things that are misleading or wrong cyclists should shut up. So should women, Jews, and blacks, eh?

Crazytown, ticket for one.

Are you literally comparing yourself to blacks, Jews, and women?

Like I said, this thread reveals why everyone hates cyclists. Just cringe.

You do realize that plenty of all three also bike, right?

And yeah, the "just shut up, defending yourself if why we hate you" is exactly the same thing.

So wait.... cyclists are angry about being passed by the "guy from potomac" (weird chip on your shoulder there, wonder why...), presumably because they want to be treated as if they were an actual car, and then they want to be able to use the far side of the road, instead of waiting in line like an actual vehicle?

Yes, this is exactly why people hate cyclists. The absolute self absorption, the demand of being treated "like a vehicle" when it suits them, and disregarding it as soon as its convenient. It's laughable, absurd, and contemptible. Which is why most people see cyclists and look down on them.

There has not been one cyclist to suggest they are angry about being passed in a car. Not one. I am not even sure where you are getting that conclusion from this thread. There are motorists who are upset about being slowed and there is the angry "trike" poster who is threatening to pass too close and honk their horn a lot.

Funny, most of the cyclists I see are pasty, short, weak looking middle aged white dudes.

But it's truly hilarious you would compare yourselves to these viciously persecuted groups.

Again I'll say- no wonder everyone hates cyclists. I mean...

Because?

Because they block major thoroughfares knowing full well the vast number of people it will inconvenience and cause to be late.

Cyclists overall result in less congestion on thoroughfares. The small amount of riding that involves taking the lane on fast roads is dwarfed by the amount of bike commuting on trails, in bike lanes, on streets with low speed limits. Much of the bike commuting that does occur on streets with higher speed limits happens at times when congestion means motor vehicles move so slowly, bikes can easily keep up - indeed one of the advantages of bike lanes is the ability to safely scoot around stopped traffic.

I have zero issue with bicyclists that sack to bike lanes and trails. That's fine. What becomes a problem is when you are commuting in lanes where the speed is higher than you, on your bike, can reach- inconveniencing drivers, especially at a crucial time like rush hour. Have some awareness and empathy for those around you and don't bike down major thoroughfares.

Please tell me how I should get from Holton Arms area to Downtown DC on a bike without going on River Road for part of it.

If you're set on bike commuting, it's your responsibility to find a safe route. If you insist on biking on a heavily trafficked artery with no bike infrastructure at rush hour, then you just have to accept the consequences.

There were several, and you obviously haven't read the whole thread.

I’m quaking in my boots waiting for the cops to come to my door about my honking at you. Good luck, trike.

Honking is not dangerous to cyclists. It might annoy the neighbors though.

I'm glad you think so. That's why I will use this considerate technique on all cyclists I see.

You really are an a$$hole and an idiot - what kind of SUV do you drive and how long is your commute?

It's a big one. You'll find out when I'm behind you, I'm sure.

Not a biker but am I reading this right? An antisocial middle-aged woman from MD in a soccer-mom car is making fun of someone's appearance?

Nope. In fact you seem to have imagined a scenario that is pure fiction. Wishful thinking from a nerd.

Not the PP you responded to, but seems like I struck a nerve...has your North Bethesda commute got you tired and frustrated? Is everyone who disagrees with you a "nerd"?

Anyone who presents facts and data instead of playing dominance games is s "nerd" it would seem.

+1

BTW, the statistics that you have twice the likelihood of dying when commuting in a bike vs a car are for any routes to work. I'm sure most people try to take routes that aren't on major thoroughfares with huge volumes of traffic, at high speeds. So it would be REALLY interesting to see some data on that

I see people of color - from african americans in spandex on road bikes, to working class hispanics on cheap bikes, to asian americans who include some of the fastest riders in the region. Plenty of women. 20 somethings to 70 year olds.

But even if we were all pasty faced white males, how would that exclude Jews?

That's up to you to figure out, you little creep.

You are probably that batty neighbor I hate so much. So with your advice, I will continue to ride on River.

And I will give you a wide berth of 3 inches and honk at top volume.

I don't. I see a bunch of really nerdy dudes that look like they had the hell pounded out of them in high school. And spent their fair share of time in lockers.

Actually the data suggests most bike fatalities are at intersections, not "hit from behind" Also a disproportionate amount involve riding without a helmet or riding at night without lights (the lycra clad that Mr Trumpkin hates all ride with helmets and lights)

Except what I am doing is legal, so you will have to accept the consequences.

Have a great day.

I am wondering what the reaction would be if I drive my car well under the limit on River Road. Might be an interesting experiment.
