There's nothing wrong with Penn State.

There's something wrong with choosing a second-tier school when and if students have better alternatives.

Maybe that was the Banneker kids' top choice schools. Just because YOU don't want your kids to go to an HBCU doesn't mean they are not top schools or that's the best those kids could do.

First, it's pretty obvious HBCUs are no top schools.

Second, it's pretty obvious why few white/ Asian/ Latino kids prioritize HBCUs.

Third, of course Banneker kids can do whatever their please!

I'm not the person you quoted but where can I find the information about what schools Banneker kids chooose? Just wondering where you are getting your data.

I would ignore whoever that person is. I graduated from Banneker. I mentioned an HBCU to my counselor and was asked why I was wasting my time at Banneker if that's where I wanted to go. I thought it was snobby and it added to my personal disdain for Banneker back then, but it was a mentality that I encountered a lot. I'd say that the number of people going to HBCUs was about equal to the number of people going to Ivy Leagues. We only graduate 100 or so kids a year. The majority end up at a school like Penn State.

Penn State is neither a HBCU nor an Ivy.

I am aware of that. Let me rephrase: a small percentage go to Ivies and HBCUs while the rest go to schools like Penn State.

For all the problems with PARCC, the Atlanta Journal Constitution's education columnist finds states that have dropped PARCC or Smarter Balanced have created other problems - and in some cases ended back up with Pearson.

This is a new twist. A school in Alexandria asked kids who were low performers to opt out!
