PARCC test results - slight increase in scores overall, white students see drop, Wilson plunges

A lot of them go to HBCU which are not of particular interest to white kids.

Maybe that was the Banneker kids' top choice schools. Just because YOU don't want your kids to go to an HBCU doesn't mean they are not top schools or that's the best those kids could do.

As someone pointed out, these schools are entirely separate.
Geometry scores may well be from the middle school and not from McKinley Tech.

Well, just to be sure then, could you look up the McKinley Tech scores, and post them here?

First, it's pretty obvious HBCUs are no top schools.

Second, it's pretty obvious why few white/ Asian/ Latino kids prioritize HBCUs.

Third, of course Banneker kids can do whatever their please!

As previous poster said, those numbers are dismal for a selective HS. 10% in Math, for a tech/ science school? Is it a joke?

I forgot to add that we also looked at McKinley Tech but my son rejected it because of
Tough commute from Tenley. I'm surprised how no one ever mentions
McKinley Tech on these forums. For kids interested in Science and Math,
It is a very good option. Go visit the school, ask for a tour and actually spend time
In a class or two - you will be pleasantly surprised.

Wilson is a bit crazy for 9th grade. Overcrowded and my kid seems to have bad to mediocre
teachers. Hope 10th grade is an improvement.

I sent my DC to Tech from Tenley. Straight shot on the red line to NoMaGallaudet and a 12 minute walk up the hill. Left at 8 and was there in the building by 8:40. You must have been thinking of taking the bus, but it was not necessary. Tech is filled with middle class AA students mostly from the Cap Hill cluster. Sorry their scores were not higher. Math was especially disappointing, but I heard that they had computer issues.

Tech attracts a number of top students from the "not Deal" middle schools, but they are not top students once they get more academic rigor. Parents only then realize how weak their kids MS education was.

I would ignore whoever that person is. I graduated from Banneker. I mentioned an HBCU to my counselor and was asked why I was wasting my time at Banneker if that's where I wanted to go. I thought it was snobby and it added to my personal disdain for Banneker back then, but it was a mentality that I encountered a lot. I'd say that the number of people going to HBCUs was about equal to the number of people going to Ivy Leagues. We only graduate 100 or so kids a year. The majority end up at a school like Penn State.

I applied and got accepted into university of chicago, USC, UVA, and Berkeley. I chose to go to Howard for many reasons. Try not to judge so much.

Dc, the place where everyone is Howard Roarke. And tells you about it eighty times a day.

Penn State is neither a HBCU nor an Ivy.

Penn state is the choice for too DC kids. That is disappointing.

For Pp who keeps asking about where to find where Banneker kids go to college, you can get that info at their open house. If they don't actually hand out the info, you can ask.

Where kids go is a function of many factors beyond where they can get accepted. Financial aid, ability to finance travel to/from, housing, what they want to study, etc.
