MoCo is diverse, for sure, but MCPS schools are not

Everybody pays taxes.

As for working hard -- construction workers, landscape workers, building cleaners, and dish washers work a lot harder than I do, and they probably work a lot harder than you do, too.

Yes, actually. Brazil has birthright citizenship. Canada has birthright citizenship. Germany changed its citizenship laws, because they had a lot of people who were born and raised in Germany who were not allowed to be German, and that didn't work out so well. And why we should model ourselves after Singapore, of all places, is a question I really can't answer. There are more people just in Maryland than in all of Singapore. Also, it's legal to sell chewing gum in Maryland.





The US and Canada are the only two developed nations in the world that have birthright citizenship, and I'd wager a guess that Canada wouldn't if they had someone else on their southern border.

Another useful fact: the US is the only developed nation in the world that fought a civil war over slavery, which led to the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution, which begins:

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside.

I like the 14th Amendment. I think it's a good one.

A final useful fact: MCPS can't amend the US Constitution.

Here's a thought - Perhaps MCPS could downsize the Central Office and get rid of a few levels of bureaucracy to save money.

MCPS to teach who is here so I think this is the wrong thread to discuss immigration issues.

Are you talking sales tax? Please. Most of illegals send their money home. What little they spend here is taxes by a few small perentage. No income, no state, no federal, no home real estate taxes. So who then pays for these 11+ million undocumented workers. We all know the upper class isn't taxed enough. It all falls back on the ever-shrinking middle class

It would be a great start that is for sure. How much money do you think these millions of illegal immigrants from any country cost? Countries don't have open borders or amnesty for reasons. There are federal laws in place that the now current liberal government plays with for political pawns. It is a game both parties play - paid for by the middle class.

I agree that illegal immigration is not helpful for MoCo but the thread was focused for almost 20 pages on things that might be politically tough but are still within Moco's power to do. There is nothing the county can actually do about the impacts of illegal immigration though unfortunately.
