Great question from out of townie not even posed under Oath:
You will find in Fairfax County -- Silence is golden and speaks volume. You have your answer. |
Is this true for SAT and ACT prep services for your children in preparation for College. You forgot to answer my question -- you artful dodger cuty pie. |
oh believe me they have intensive private test prep courses around he for TJ admission. Starting in 6th grade no less.
|
around here |
the TJ prep courses are full. DC went for short period but complained about not being able to understand the instructors' accents. |
No, never have. My kids all had a great work ethic and never needed extra help outside of school. I know people who did SAT and ACT prep courses, but my kids did not, and ended up with scores in the 95th percentile and above. And you should realize you have more than one poster responding to your questions. |
|
I don't believe that. SAT and TJ prep do not happen here.
S/He's baack the crazy prepper. No one does SAT or TJ prep for an edge here. |
And I am not equating prep for the SAT, which is largely vocabulary for college-bound HS students to a general test given to 7 year olds that is to measure intelligence. SAT is supposed to measure the likelyhood of success in college. CogAT measures the inate ability of a 7 yo. Different things, different strategies. But then, I must be privaliged, as I am multigenerational american. And worse, I am Jewish. So I do not have to work, nor does my kid. Things are handed to me. |
Outstanding. Are your kids at Harvard or UMBC? |
well this may come as a shock to you, as it did to me when I found out about it, but apparently it is not uncommon. |
|
I also have a child at TJ who did no TJ prep courses. We knew kids who spent over a year in a 1-2 class a week course. Some were accepted, some were not. Some of the kids who did prep classes and were accepted have needed private tutors every semester they've been at TJ. |
Too much information. Much too much incriminating information. I only asked whether your children used SAT prep services. |
| Are you calling the poster a criminal? |
My child has not used SAT prep yet. One of her friends is starting to prep. DD and her friends are in the 6th grade, though. Note that the friend is in an enthic group associated with test prep. |
Agreed. The worst I've seen here were some posters on DCUM looking for a consultant to advise them through the AAP process. |
