“A key factor dragging business for some Gulf Coast tourist destinations is the lack of foreign arrivals — particularly from Canada. Canadian visitors, long a lifeline for Florida’s Gulf Coast, are pulling back as diplomatic tensions rise and border crossings plunge. As the Trump administration ramps up its trade war and diplomatic spat, the so-called “snowbirds” from the north are changing their travel plans.”

| I'm noticing DC is becoming like a ghost town now too. Supposedly "safe" yet who wants to visit a city that looks like a military occupation zone with scenes of racial profiling and random people being detained? Incidentally, arrests are down in DC despite all the increased federal presence.... |
How do they measure arrests to be down for a time period less than a week? |

Tourism in Las Vegas is slumping this summer, with resorts and convention centers reporting fewer visitors compared to last year, especially from abroad. Some officials are blaming the Trump administration's tariffs and immigration policies for the decline. |
The slump in DC is due solely to the military occupation. The DCRA stats show the drop off started when the troops arrived. |
The same way Trump measures people flocking back to DC to eat at restaurants. I guess the voices in his head told him. |
My parents live in SWFL and their sole income at this point comes from several investment properties that they rent to snowbirds. This is what they live on in order to avoid touching their investments, which they are counting on to cover costs once they feel they can't live independently anymore. Most of their renters come from Canada or from the Midwest. So far they have no Candadians booked for the season and two of their regulars have let them know they are not coming this year. And their domestic renters are way down, with regulars citing fears about the economy keeping them close to home. So yeah, this is real. |
All those he pardoned are flocking back to restaurants. APPLEBEE'S! |
Canadian here. You should let your parents know that the boycott will continue for a while. Snowbirds are finding alternative places to stay - mostly in southern Europe and the Caribbean. |
This. It will take an entirely new political regime and a sea change in politics and international relations before people from canada and new england go to florida or the southern US. |
Yep, a friend has rentals in Naples and never had a problem renting, mostly to Canadians, until now. I’m sure this will continue until Trump is gone. No Canadian in their right mind would vacation in Florida of all places right now. |
Of course since Trump said this it’s a total lie and literally the opposite is true. https://www.wusa9.com/article/news/local/dc/reservations-plunge-across-dc-restaurants-after-president-donald-trumps-police-takeover-summer-restaurant-week-district-open-table/65-e83cc2e7-a921-401a-ba35-960c77f8da14 |
We normally go out to eat near DH’s work once a week, but I’m not driving in and dealing with all that nonsense. Instead we’re doing our date night in the suburbs. Hopefully it’s over in the 30 days allotted. |
| Yep who wants to hang out in DC. I drive in and out for work but bring my breakfast and lunch so do not leave the building. I’m slightly worried about getting pulled over by one of these masked military or whatever MAGA nuts on my way in our out. We also used to have work lunches my company paid for but those have stopped entirely. |
They have made several announcements touting the numbers of arrests made. But when you compare it to this time last year or a few months and do the math to calculate average numbers of arrests per day it's a lot fewer now than it was before all these feds came in. |
