You are really naive if you think this. Did you read the Guardian article? They shackled a 60+ white British grandma who had a valid tourist visa and kept her in a prison for over 40 days even though - forget the fact that she wasn't a criminal and that she was there completely legally - even though she immediately signed papers to self-deport and had the money to pay for the ticket.

Agents are getting paid per person detained. And private prisons get money for holding people.

Nobody should come to this country. It is absolutely dangerous to foreigners.

The story in the article is insane. The British woman is convinced the agents are receiving a bonus per person apprehended, but the impetus must go well beyond that. What motivation is there for the for profit prison system to empty a bed? That's where the real profit is happening, no doubt they can name their price, given the current budgets.

There seem to be a lot of dumb Latinos out there

PP everyone is responding to in previous posts. Trust me. I didn’t vote for the guy and I think Latinos in everyday life should be scared. And I think the ones who did vote for him are dumb AF. But the images of a bunch of ICE agents arresting World Cup attendees/rich tourists is even too much for Trump and Co. That would really ruin their narrative (for the saps who still believe it) that ICE is only going after the bad hombres.

how are these people Bad Hombres

Karen Newton (United Kingdom, 2025-2026): A 65-year-old retired school administrator from the UK was detained for six weeks starting in July 2025. Despite having a valid B2 tourist visa, she was held at the Northwest ICE Processing Center in Washington. Authorities reportedly accused her of "guilt by association" and violating her visa terms because she helped her husband pack for the trip.

Rebecca Burke (Wales/UK, 2025): A graphic artist and backpacker was detained for 19 days in February 2025 while attempting to leave the U.S. for Canada. Border officials claimed her living arrangements suggested she was working as a nanny rather than visiting as a tourist. She was shackled and held in a facility in Tacoma, Washington, despite having the funds to pay for an immediate flight home.

Lucas Sielaff (Germany, 2025): A 25-year-old German tourist was detained for 16 days in February 2025. While returning from a short trip to Mexico with his American fiancée, he was accused of living in Las Vegas illegally. Because English was his second language, his answers during questioning were misinterpreted as a confession of residency. He was sent to the Otay Mesa Detention Center in San Diego.

Jessica Brösche (Germany, 2025): A 26-year-old tattoo artist was detained for 45 days, including eight days in solitary confinement. She was stopped at the San Diego border in January 2025 because she was carrying her tattoo equipment, which led officers to believe she intended to work illegally in Los Angeles.

Sarah Shaw (New Zealand, 2025): In July 2025, a New Zealander and her six-year-old son were reportedly detained for three weeks. Their case was part of a larger trend of increased scrutiny on travelers from traditionally "low-risk" ally nations.

No, I am not. You said that he won't go after a certain kind of tourist because it would contradict his narrative and make ICE look bad. And I just listed a bunch of white well-off tourists who were detained for no good reason. I am saying, it is definitely risky for anyone to come to the US. My European relatives (white Spaniards) have already canceled plans.

Agree. My Swedish relatives are terrified of visiting us even though they’ve been planning on visiting us for years (waiting for the kids to get a little older). All these horror stories are front-page news in many European countries.

At this point, why would they?

Im mean, unless your country is involved in an active war, wherever you are is probably better than the US at the moment.

WSJ: “Last year the U.S. experienced something that hasn’t definitively occurred since the Great Depression: More people moved out than moved in. The Trump administration has hailed the exodus—negative net migration—as the fulfillment of its promise to ramp up deportations and restrict new visas. Beneath the stormy optics of that immigration crackdown, however, lies a less-noticed reversal: America’s own citizens are leaving in record numbers, replanting themselves and their families in lands they find more affordable and safe.
Since the Eisenhower administration, the U.S. hasn’t collected comprehensive statistics on the number of citizens leaving. Yet data on residence permits, foreign home purchases, student enrollments and other metrics from more than 50 countries show that Americans are voting with their feet to an unprecedented degree. A millions-strong diaspora is studying, telecommuting and retiring overseas.”

Yup. Bad trend for the US, but what else can you expect?

Here is another story for all the posters who think Trump's goons won't go after the well-off World Cup attendees because it would be "too much" even for them.

This is a white Canadian business guy dad, lawful permanent resident, who has been living in the US for 30 years.

The explanation for his months-long detention stems from misdimeanor charges like a Xanax tablet found in his car when he was in high school.

I get why this guy wants to stay in the US (he has shared custody of kids!) but I sincerely do not know why ANYONE would visit this country.
