I am talking to a lot of Democrats who want Trump to succeed.

The person here saying they are upset that Trump won't deport people, etc isn't on the right. I'm on the right, and I had never even HEARD the claim that Trump would free J6 prisoners until AFTER the election, when a Democratic relative brought it up. It wasn't a campaign promise. It was words that were, per usual, taken out of context and bandied about in the leftosphere to scare people. That person is most definitely a troll because no one on the right is really tracking this. And it would be a controversial point, because they shouldn't be given carte blanch pardons.

Similar for the border. The left breathlessly told everyone that Trump would not only deport illegals, but also all black people. I mean, what the...? That's just crazy. He only promised to aggressively attempt to remove illegals, starting with the most dangerous ones (violent criminals).

The economy? Yeah, that remains to be seen.

Then you were not paying attention. Trump said this several times, during campaign speeches etc.

Nope. I am a certified, incurable conservatard that listens to an average of 1.5 hours of right wing analysis per day. This was definitely not something that the right wing was tracking. I'll let you in on a secret. We don't think about J6 anymore. At all. So if Trump made this a cornerstone, we'd be like, okay this is what you're focused on right now, in the midst of a border crisis, a faltering economy, and a troubled security environment across the globe? It wouldn't have resonated. That poster is not right wing.

It's wild how we haven't heard about "migrant caravans" in more than a year, and how suddenly, the day after Trump won, there are exactly zero stories anymore about "violent Venezuelan street gangs taking over towns" and "migrants eating cats and dogs" and so on. It's almost as if... it were all a bunch of grossly overblown RWNJ fearmongering echoed by the media and every social channel.

Of course there were overblown propaganda stories. The silly simpletons that watch Fox News and MSNBC would believe the sun was green if their favorite evening news anchor claimed it was.

What are your expectations with regard to illegals? Here on DCUM we heard Trump supporters insist, illegal is illegal, anyone who crossed the border illegally is a criminal, and that all of them have to go. All of them. We also heard Trump supporters insist that Haitians approved for asylum under previous administrations have to go, and particularly so because they are stealing cats and dogs and eating them. And that means revoking their status of being in the US LEGALLY under asylum provisions. We also heard you not having any problems with Vance's statements about denaturalizing citizens, immigrants who have been granted US citizenship.

Do you expect ALL of them to be deported, to include approved asylees and naturalized citizens? Or just the illegal border crossers? Do you expect the number of illegals in the US to go to zero?

Don't dance around the question, give us an actual answer.

“Fox News” is short had for right wing media. Don’t be so pedantic.

It's sad and wild that MAGAs like my parents now actually think Fox News is too left wing and "fake news" instead they get their "news" from even more dishonest fake news channels like NewsMax. And my father-in-law gets his RWNJ "news" from weirdos on Youtube.

Talk about sliding farther and farther down the rabbit hole, farther and farther from reality...

Fox is fairly moderate. But the bigger issue is, it's very shallow. No deep dives on issues, no historical context, no legal analysis. It's fine for headline news. But if you're looking for long form, in depth coverage, it's not there. BTW, the right hasn't moved to YouTube, a left wing platform. This is what I mean! You guys literally have no idea where people get their news or what they are hearing.

Well enlighten us! Where are they hearing it?

I'll be impressed if they can deport a million per year, so I'd say my expectations would be for them to deport at least 3M high risk (known violent illegals) for the 4 years he is in office. I'm hoping for more, naturally. We will need several Republican administrations back to back to remove all of the violent gang members etc that came into the US during the Biden administration.

I think most of us normal, moderate people just want the border secured and the asylum laws changed so that unfortunate people aren't walking 500 miles to either sneak in or claim asylum at the border. Once that's done, deporting those that have committed crimes or do commit crimes makes sense but otherwise, only idiots are suggesting that everyone here without legal residency should be deported. We know we can't depend on Trump or Biden to handle this issue appropriately. Perhaps we'll get a real POTUS that can handle it in 2029.

I’ll be shocked if he deports a million people at all. He isn’t even talking about that, and when he does he’s waffling.
He is talking about suing the Des Moines register over an outlier poll.
So… yeah.

The economy? Yeah, that remains to be seen.

What do you mean, "remains to be seen" on the economy?

Here are definite, concrete promises he made:

He promised to eliminate inflation.

He promised to drive prices down and make America affordable.

He promised to pay off the national debt.

He promised to drill baby drill and increase oil and gas production (never mind that we are already producing more oil and gas than at any time in American history, and that the price points for more aren't right for the oil and gas sector).

He promised to create jobs and bring manufacturing to the US.

He promised to invest in infrastructure.

(example citation for the promises above: https://www.usnews.com/news/national-news/articles/2024-08-14/trump-lays-out-economic-plan-everything-from-cutting-taxes-paying-off-the-debt-to-drill-baby-drill )

He promised to end taxes on tips.

He promised to end taxes on social security.

(example citation for those two promises: https://www.politifact.com/article/2024/nov/13/ask-politifact-what-are-donald-trumps-second-term )

He promised deportation of illegals as a positive economic change.

He promised significant tariffs against other countries as a positive economic change.

(citation for those two promises: https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/frustrated-americans-who-voted-for-trump-await-the-economic-changes-he-promised )

How many of those do Trump voters actually still expect him to follow through on? And do you genuinely think that deporting illegals and imposing tariffs will have a positive impact on the economy?

Well, I'd say the current news cycle is dominated by the drone issue and the Biden administration claiming that they don't have enough power to do anything, similar to their response on the border.

You are surprised a known serial liar lied? You're surprised a nepo baby billionaire who has never cared about anyone but himself doesn't care about his constituents or campaign promises?

"Don't call us morons, that's why we voted for Trump!" Scream morons who can't stop doing moronic things.

So here is how this shakes out:
MAGA voters
A) will never hear about the facts of Trump’s second term from their hermetically sealed
Conservative echo chamber. Fox News never covers it and in fact, Fox News will never mention immigration at all, and all of the Maga voters will believe it’s been solved.
B) the republicans will continue to malign the very institutions they now control as wasteful, dysfunctional, and corrupt. They will continue to be nihilistic turds for ( in most cases ) political gain and in other cases for ideological zealotry. And MAGA voters will continue to slide further down the toilet away from a belief in democracy. There is no expertise or competence. We as a country can’t conceive of doing big things. American exceptionalism is dead. And they will keep voting officials that tell them that. And then proving it. Rinse repeat.
C) we become a fully pay to play kleptocracy. And the masses buy Trump perfume and never notice the they got nothing.

Happy Holidays!

I mean that it remains to be seen if he will fulfill his campaign promises on the economy. This is in the context of a post where I pointed out that Republicans do not, in general, believe that Trump promised to free J6 prisoners and deport every illegal. He did make a lot of economic promises, and it remains to be seen if he will make good.

Why did Trump feel so compelled to promise to deport all illegals (millions), if that's not actually what most people want, and if that's not actually what he can deliver on?

Why do we keep putting up with garbage political campaign promises and why to tens of millions of Americans keep falling for this garbage?

Fox is fairly moderate. But the bigger issue is, it's very shallow. No deep dives on issues, no historical context, no legal analysis. It's fine for headline news. But if you're looking for long form, in depth coverage, it's not there. BTW, the right hasn't moved to YouTube, a left wing platform. This is what I mean! You guys literally have no idea where people get their news or what they are hearing.

Youtube isn't a content provider. it is a platform where content providers stream content. that doesn't make it left wing or right wing.

They don't believe he made that promise, to free J6 prisoners? How can they not believe it? He absolutely did promise it, along with telling a lot of lies about what happened on J6. He is on the record, on video, in interview.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-will-likely-pardon-capitol-rioters-day-1-says-jan-6-committee-me-rcna183275

Do Republicans now also "not believe" he actually made all of the economic promises he is on video having made as well?

Why is reality so fluid for Republicans? Why do they constantly disavow things that are a matter of record, and for which video exists?
