I think PPs point might be this: imagine if all these mass shooters in Vegas, Sandy Hook, Ulvade, Columbine, Miami, etc had been black. How much harder would it be to get these guns now? A good example can shoot into an inch at 100 yards if properly handled by a competent marksman. The more average performance with an average shooter and average rifle would be 4-6 inches at 100 yards. These results require close, careful sight alignment, breath control, trigger control, recoil control, consistent head position on the stock, a stable shooting platform, etc. Point and shoot will result in random, if any, hits. General direction shooting the same. Myths and ignorance notwithstanding, there is a lot more space around targets than on them. Sportsmen spend years perfecting their skills and thousands of dollars on customized firearms and sights to shrink their shot groups and win competitions.

The people using it to kill other people are not shooting 100 yards. In a classroom, they are point and shoot.

I wish all the other places that will be affected by assault weapon mass murders in the future would just figure it out now and help prevent the next massacre.

I hate that he was fine to ignore and distance himself from all the dead Sandy Hook kids, all the dead Vegas and Orlando innocents. But he may well lose his seat with this announcement so I appreciate his late courage.

This is PP - I live in Maine. I’m living this event. He was alive during Sandy Hook and that should have been enough for him, and everyone, to come out against assault weapons. But yes, it’s a big deal to change his tune, and again, he could be voted out due to it if enough people aren’t as deeply impacted as Jared is.

I am a military spouse and disturbed that this guy was hearing voices, having psychotic breaks etc. and .... going about his day? Have they determined why he was not receiving treatment through the military, and why he had access to an assault weapon? Was it acquired illegally? This sounds like a fail on so many levels. And I abhor the loss of life. So much sad news.

He told them straight up that he was hearing voices and was going to commit a mass shooting. He was failed by the VA, the system, whoever didn’t take him seriously. This is not about MAGA or anything else. It’s about a complete failure of the system to help someone. Welcome to our government.

I guess it is never the time to ban guns, but time to dismantle the government. Why are the police and swat teams out there hunting him down? Shouldn't the MAGA 2A nuts out there showing their chops and being the good guy with a gun?
