What did the husband do for a living? Appears from the house and the au pair and everything else they were well off enough. Did Christine work?

Husband is/was FBI, Christine was a nurse. Seems like lifestyle would be a stretch on one income. Don't think he came from $, not sure about her. Even on fed/nurse income seems a bit of a stretch, but little girl started school this year so childcare costs almost over.

Not especially well off for this area, middle class. AP may have worked best for child care due to shift work.

There are lots of people in this area in the older Millennial- younger Gen X demographic who are getting support from parents. The parents aren’t necessarily rich either. Just solidly middle class and originally from low cost of living areas. Usually they pay for day care, or a generous down payment on a house, that enables the kids to live a little beyond their usual means.

BB’s mom is retired IRS. CB’s parents are retired FBI and Long Island Detective.

Yeah police made/still make a really decent amount of money in the NYC area. Lots of OT, if they’re in the older Boomer generation really generous retirement. They aren’t struggling for money. Neither family is a teacher married to a truck driver from a small town in Oklahoma.

Unrelated to the murder but I just looked up these houses on Zillow and wow. Who knew SFH in Herndon are worth over $1M now?!?

This neighborhood is in Oak Hill and is in a different zip code from downtown Herndon. Much more affluent and thus why this murder case has very high visibility.

Seems high end for a fed and a nurse and au pairs are not that cheap, esp for just one kid.

I know there have been neighbors on here, how are folks reacting? Seems like a close community, kids would have playdates, etc. How was recent vibe between Brendan and au pair? Her socials posts were dumb. They must have not cared how it looked.

They bought the house for $800K, that's not unreasonable - they bought in 2020, low interest rates.

Anonymous wrote:If this was a set up, why would AP call BB when she saw the car in the driveway? Why would BB have returned (if the whole plan was for him to be out of the house on purpose)? Why would she have originally called 911? What happened in the extra 15 minutes?

We know from the presser that AP shot JR and BB wasn't even home when it happened. If that was the plan, what went wrong that he decided to cover for her? Like if the whole idea was that he would be out of the house at the time, then obviously him shooting JR was not the story they planned to tell. So why did they? I think figuring that out will be the crucial detail to how it all went down. Could they have waited the extra 15 minutes because they suddenly realized the wife wasn't dead?

Thinking you can pin a stabbing on someone else honestly doesn't seem like a mistake a LE would make. But who knows?

Is there any chance this really was all AP? She did this all w/o BB knowing in advance? She's originally going to call the cops to report she shot JR in defense of CB and BB arrives, flips out because there's no way cops we'll believe JR stabbed CB based on the scene, and then spends the 15 minutes trying to make it look like JR stabbed CB/he killed CB/AP just happens to be there?

Another poster said that there is a lot of forensic work going into the data collection from phones and computers. The husband gives me the vibe of a guy who thinks he is the smartest guy in the room. I think he tried to plant messages to make it seem like his wife was afraid of JR, which would give JR motive for killing her, and reason for him to rush home as an excuse.

I think it was meant to appear that he was rushing in as a hero to save the day.

But if this was the plan, *he* would have shot her. It legit does not make sense for BB & AP to have conspired to intentionally have events unfold as they did. BB shooting JR would have been 100x less suspicious than AP shooting JR and BB claiming to have done it when he was literally not in the house at the time. Even if BB erroneously thinks he's the smartest guy in the room, he's an FBI agent and there is zero chance that was his intentional plan. Adding a layer of lies for no reason would never make sense. Either AP really did this w/o BB's prior involvement (maybe he set her off intentionally even, but he didn't know how/when it was going to go down) or something went wrong with their original plan that we're not aware of yet.

Agree.

Anonymous wrote:I’m confused. So the au pair shot some random ‘friend’ of the wife, and then the husband stabbed the wife? Were they working together? Why would the husband lie and say he shot this person; was he trying to frame him for stabbing the wife?

We don't know (yet) who really did the stabbing. The husband lying about shooting JR is suspicious as hell.

I think husband did shoot JR after AP did in order to get gun shot residue on himself probably thinking LE wouldn't test the AP for the same.

Hmmm...they did mention he had been shot many times.

Wonder what the neighbors heard, or maybe he has a silencer?

Had he been taking the au pair to the gun range I wonder?

Definitely. No financial crimes here, just grandma and grandpa throwing some money the adult kids’ ways over the years. Probably no student loans either which also really helps.

He was an IRS investigator, not NYPD working endless OT. And now Christine's income is gone. Long Island is NOT a low cost of living area, GTFO. They likely rolled a sale of property in NY into the VA house and like many of us were hanging on until childcare costs dropped. They had enough income to cover, now income is much smaller.

The NYPD was a reference to CB's dad... who was actually Long Island PD, but still.

AP snapped and stabbed the mom, but didn't kill her. Stabbing is an emotional crime of passion.

AP uses Christine's phone, sends a text to Joe asking him to come help with something at the house. Joe arrives, is told to go to the bedroom, and he gets ambushed by the Au Pair from behind with the gun.

A few things not yet addressed by police:
-Where's the knife? Is this a kitchen knife?
-Who has wounds from the knife attack? Usually a killer will get scratched during the struggle.
-Bloody clothes and rags? Are there blood traces in the rest of the house?
-LEOs almost always have security and surveillance at their home. Ring doorbell camera footage from family home + adjacent neighbors?

Way too many gaps in this case for these two to get away with it.

The only open question still in my mind is whether Brendan (1) actively helped in the premediated plotting with the AP or (2) merely tried to help cover-up for the AP after the fact.

His blatant lie along with his clamming up to police leads me to believe the AP did this spur of the moment and he was trying to help her cover-it-up.

I agree with all of this. Stabbing someone is so messy and indicates rage, like how AP would feel rage that CB was living the life you wanted with BB and child.

Christine was not tiny. Not sure AP would have been able to stab her. Think it was more likely a man.

I doubt Christine's dad, on LI with sky high taxes, was supporting their monthly expenses in VA.

I didn't know Christine's family are LE too, I can't even imagine how they are feeling, waiting for all this to play out. I hope that they, and Christine, get some justice. Shame she is gone so soon.

I think Joe being there was a big part of the plan. Nothing spur of the moment about any of this imo.

Bought with 2 incomes, now have 1.

Anonymous wrote:I’m new to this but just read the entire thread. What jumps out at me is the 15 minutes between AP calling 911 (and hanging up without speaking) and the second call when both BB and AP spoke (and didn’t have their stories straight, despite the 15 minute lapse between calls). I suspect that at least one victim, JR CB or both, was attacked during the 15 minute lapse between calls to 911.

Agree. From the 911 call the intent was to make people think Ryan stabbed Christine Banfield. I'm not sure that's the case, but also, like someone said, it's really hard to cover up stabbing someone, so it's really confusing.
